So after many months of lusting after it I finally got myself an X100 and boy do I love it. It is the perfect compliment to my Canon L1 for my everyday, carry with me everywhere kit. The Canon can now have full B&W duty while the X100 can be used exclusively for color.

Even with the cameras inherent quirkiness that has been discussed in depth everywhere, I am finding that I use it more like a film camera than my old Nikon D70. I shoot more slowly and take more time checking and double checking my exposure and composition.
I took the Fuji hiking to Sweet Creek Falls here in the coast range of Oregon and was very pleased with the results. I did not take a tripod but was able to get some pretty pleasing results by hand holding it on rocks.

I like the composition, but that's grossly overexposed on the water. Does not jump out as a reason to keep or want an X100. Everything else does look finely detailed though.

Is it overexposed? Or is it a mistake God made in establishing tonal relationships? I think the X100 is pretty reasonable when it comes to dynamic range, for a digital camera.

Sorry it's the first thing I see when I look at that image. That's all. I'm sure it's a fine camera but the photo shows limitations. Could even be workflow related. I'm in a fickle mood today don't mind me.

The photo has been processed pretty high contrast.

I would not blame the camera. It was my first time using it and I was still learning the controlls, and I probably could have improved it in post but I didn't do anything in post except crop out the rock that the camera was resting on. So for a shot directly out of the camera from the first time I used it I am pretty happy with the results. Next time I will lower the exposure to gain more detail in the water. Oh and I am not trying to convince anyone else to buy a fuji, just shareing my excitement with my new camera.

I'm loving the x100 as well, although I swear I can focus faster with my R-D1 sometimes and I only have myself to blame if the focus is off. I find the x100 meters pretty well, although I tend to use spot. FWIW, the waterfall looks a little overexposed.

I do love the x100 and the IQ is amazing. My primary frustration is with the slow startup time (even with that fast startup time selected) combined with the slow AF. It has caused me to miss a few shots.

Make sure you're on the latest firmware for the AF (which is now faster than my contax G1), and make sure you format the card every time after you put it in a card reader for optimum startup time.
