I made a blog.

Thanks! I just love being flattered!

About dust and scratches : some of those negatives, I developed 20 years ago, I had very chalky water. I try to be diligent in spotting them.
Still, I'm almost through the older stuff, cleaner negs should follow.

Cheers!

As there is no commercial connection whatsoever to my blog, I allow myself to shamelessly plug, promote and publicise the same. This is blatant self aggrandisement, an appeal for praise and flattery, and repugnant public relations.

At the very beginning of the blog, I put what I deem to be my all-time best. Follows a thrifty edit of negatives from 30 and 20 years ago, more or less in chronological order. Then photos from the last three years, taken with the rangefinders. On the 28th of february, I got a XE-2, with the kit zoom and a leica adapter on which I fit my old leica and russian glass, and I try to post every day, sometimes a few, sometimes a lot. As I am doing dailies, the weeding out is going to be a little less rigorous. Some will be repetitious, scenes from the way to work, scenes from work. The æsthetics of the banal.
I still hope to keep you interested, to make the light sing for your eyes.

I promised myself to only post photos, but I will answer comments.

The link is 'photos by lukitas', at the bottom of my post

cheers

Wow! 400 views, instead of the usual 13 or so.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

At this rate, I could become famous!

A little bit of philosophy (or self-indulgence, but that doesn't sound so nice)

I'm allergic to words like creativity, inspiration and uniqueness. Creativity is just tinkering with stuff, inspiration is only what happens when you tinker with stuff, and if anybody is unique, everybody has to be unique, except maybe for twins, but there are only two of them at a time.

I tinker, I distrust inspiration, and I don't bother about being unique.

Now that I have descended to the level of rank amateur, I can take the profession very seriously : I am my own client, my own teacher, and I give myself the assignment of producing a few decent pictures every day. Make the best that I can from the views that are given to me.

'It's not the camera, it's the person behind it' is the phrase. Then somebody added that its is the guy, with a camera, that makes the picture. But what really makes the picture is all that which is in front of the camera that is in front of the eye. All three are needed to make a picture. That, and a finger.

It would be nice to be able to hop around the planet like Salgado, or shoot the furiously famous like Leibowitz, but I am neither. Just a train conductor who happens to live in Brussels. I take pictures of the way to work, of work, of my friends, of street people, of my city.

It isn't Yosemite, but I do get panoramic vistas :

Deep canyons :

Interesting rock formations :

And for the portraits, you'll have to wade through my blog.

A truly shameless exhibitionist, that is what I am

Hi Lukitas,
we never bumped into each other but I think this is going to happen sooner or later...this playground is the view from my window ;-) and lots of familiar landscape on your blog.
And I really like the "sameness" project.
This one is from a friend´s apt. also in the neighbourhood, you may recognize the "pacific".

Great! Yes, I can feel where that apartment must be.

Lovely to find a fellow rangefinder in the 'hood!

Cheers!

Personally, I think an occasional post of words would enrich your blog. Photo galleries are pleniful, but you've got an interesting perspective on things. Why not share it? The above, for example, would make a good blog post. If it's worthwhile here, why not there? Just a thought. But I enjoy hearing what people think.

I admire your philosophy and work method.
I also, Now, shoot only for myself..and shares..
Salgado who has amazing strength and fortitude, does indeed travel.
Yet so do you and I, only shorter, closer to home!
Bruce Davidson has shot most of his life, within 20 mins of his home!
I really like your blog.

Now you have me thinking.

Maybe I should put up my 'philosophy'.

I'll think about it while processing todays pictures.

Thanks!
