Well-known
If you can believe it, I introduced myself by walking in front of him and snapping a photo with my M3 while saying "Hi Bruce!".
Bruce was actually in the middle of filming a documentary at the time on the Coney Island boardwalk... I honestly forget the 1st words out of his mouth but he certainly wasn't upset. Rather we had a small conversation... I told him how I liked his youtube videos - particularly the one where he narrates his thoughts about some of his earlier photos @ Coney Island. There was some small talk as well about my family, the fact that he was filming a documentary at the time, what camera am I using, he referred to my camera strap as a noose 😀, etc. Actually after showing him my m3, he showed me his beat up old black paint M6 - really cool to see even if only for a moment. The stories that camera could tell...
Funny thing is he caught me off guard by asking what I shoot (of all questions to catch me off guard!). I thought for a second an told him I really only have shot my 1 year old son in recent memory, and that's where I had "ended up". The part where I was caught off guard was the simultaneous realization that after the birth of my son I have nearly stopped shooting all sorts of things I used to shoot in the past. That and the feeling my answer was quite underwhelming.
In any case, the dissapointing part is the whole situation flew by before I thought to do anything like take a picture with him?!?. Or even ask where I could watch the documentary when it's finished. In fact I'm 90% positive Bruce was way out of focus when I initially snapped a photo of him. The exposure should be spot on though 😛
Oh well. At least if anything I had some simple & honest small talk with him. In spite of all the opinions online of him being a complete asshole (yet a great photographer), he was really easy to talk to.
If I even make it into the documentary I'll be tickled. (BTW, i have 7 shots on my roll left... i'll post my photo of him if it's not too embarrassing)
