I've got so used to small cams that I was finding my Digital Rebel (Canon 300D) large and cumbersome. It's a really nice camera but you folks have corrupted me to the point that I prefer shooting film with small RF's :D

It went to a guy I used to work with and it's a perfect camera for him. He bought a package including camera, kit lens, and a nice Sigma 70-300 APO II. I still have an EF 28-135 IS and an EF 100mm/2.8 macro USM for sale if anyone is interested ...

Now I can afford a new silver Jupiter 8!

p.s. I haven't abandoned digital entirely. I still like carrying a small digicam in my RF kit bag. I tend to use film for b&w and dig for col

oh my, RFF is more dangerous than we thought ! 0_0!

I think this is going to become a long thread, so much to talk about here :)

When is the M3.. er I mean Canon P arriving ? :D

gene, you are a man of complete surprises!

have you been thinking about this for a while or was this a more spontanious move?
i'd love to hear the story behind it all.

I have both EF 28-135 IS and an EF 100mm/2.8 macro USM and love them both on my 20D and Elan7E (need both for work). But use Oly OM-4 for art:)

Whoever is in the market for those lenses --- you won't be disappointed.

Shouldn't we post a vote on Gene's new camera?

Contax? M3? Canon P?
Something Russian, German or Japanese?

Brian, I'll admit that one is almost tempting. But without any lenses for the M-mount, my credit limit is safe for the moment... :)

LOL! Right now I'm trying to cull and downsize. Give me six months on the wagon before I develop M3 lust -- maybe five months for Canon P ;)

It wasn't sudden. I realized that every time I went out with my DSLR gear it seemed heavier and bulkier than the time before. In my case age is setting in and lighter is better. Nothing to do with the quality of the 300D or lenses -- they're terrific.

Nice word, Marc -- epiphany. The more I got into rangefinders, the more I enjoyed the small kit bag and the cams themselves. I was simply having more fun with them than anything except my small digicam, which is also fun.

All this dovetails with my time of life. I'll be 60 this summer and if I can afford it, I hope to retire early. This is a wonderful time of life to re-evaluate things and get a fresh start. Marion and I are thinning out all kinds of things and downsizing, getting ready for the next chapter of our lives. The camera gear is a part of the overall change in direction for us towards simplification. You acquire an awful lot of stuff over the years ...

Anyway, the 300D went to a very good home and both buyer and seller are happy!

Well that pretty much explains all. Anyway you don't have to choose your next toy yet, give yourself some time to settle things down, but I can see another RF in your near future

Fed 3a ? M2/M3 ? Maybe the CL again ? A wonderful P ?

Or maybe time for a big darkroom and make your own prints, ol' style ?

Isn't it fun to open the options door ? :D
