Excuse me while I creeb...

I was running a couple of errands this morning and then finished up a roll to test the 50/1.8 on the IVSb. I get back to my car and go to load a new roll and it jams. Again. :bang:

I spent most of the day emailing back and forth with DAG trying his suggestions. Got it working again for a bit, but then it jammed up even harder. I'll be mailing the camera to him again tomorrow. He says it shouldn't have done that and he'll look at it for free, but dang this is frustrating... I suppose in the meantime I'll just put the 50/1.8 onto my Fed 5.

Pity I don't have the money for that bargain 7 at KEH :(

They'll get it fixed.

You should have seen the Canonator the first three times I took it apart. Work for a shot or two, then would quit. Glass shards in the gears.

Well, that does make me feel a bit better. I'll tell you, though, the Fed looks even funkier than usual with the Canon lens on it :D

The Canonator, which is now owned by the G-man, came with a 50mm F0.95 attached. The seller swore the body was bought separate from the lens. It had been dropped so hard that the solid glass prism sheared off at the base. I took it apart, glued the prism back together, got the framelines working, took out the destroyed meter, and had to take it apart several times to get all the glass out. It dragged the price of the F0.95 lens WAY down as no one would take a chance that it had not gone for the ride.

Worked well enough to focus/frame with a 135mm F3.5.

Got the IV into the mail to DAG today so he'll have it tomorrow. He says it'll only cost postage and he would get it working so that's a plus.

Then Ikophot and I worked out a deal so that I also have a Canon 7 coming my way... :D Going to have to find a nice collapsable 50 for the IV and dedicate it to being a pocket camera.

Overall, I'm feeling pretty happy, not cursed, right now.

IMHO, it is simply initiation into bottom feeders. I ruined at least 2 rolls of film in my IVSb until the #$#^^#*thing would wind properly. These Canon machines are capable of great pics, but are ornery/contrary. I am really happy that Canon finally saw the light, and developed cameras with backs that swung open on a piano hinge. I have both a Canon IIIa and IVSb, and while I use them from time to time, I usaully go for the Canon L1 or P.

Well, I heard from DAG _late_ last night that he had it fixed and it sounds like was to ship back today (which being UPS will mean Monday delivery). Someone, back in time prior to Mike Elek had really hosed some of the shutter bits and if the shutter speed shaft was pushed just so - instant jam. When it works it's a really nice camera and I'm really glad to have had the experiance of using a bottom feeder.

But KEH is shipping the Canon 7 body today as well and I'll really appreciate that swing back all the more than I might have before :) Going to have to figure out if my '75 J-12 is one of those that will fit the 7.

At this point I'll be happy once both are in hand and working correctly.

Got the IV back today from DAG. Everything looks and sounds right. Going to put a roll of Plus-X@EI400 to test it, but I think everything is better on this front.

Now when the 7 gets here and I get some consulting work again (to make some more toy money), then I'll be set. At least until I go on a drooling expedition to Kevin Cameras website... :D

Yes. Awhile back I sold Enrico/Ikophot my Kiev 5. Awhile after that he decided to buy the SC Skopar 35/2.5 I had to use with it. That netted me a bargain condition Canon 7 from KEH. I believe it should be here tomorrow.

"An embarrasment of riches" comes to mind :D

I was a Canon SLR user for a long time (AE-1 & Rebel XS) so it shouldn't surprise me to find that I really enjoy working with the Canon RFs.

Great fun, so far :D
