While hunting around for an interesting M42 35mm lens (already have the f/2.4 Flektogon in PB mount), I was initially thinking about the newer M42 Voigtlander 40mm f/2 SL (totally should have bought one when they were sold new, they are a little hard to find and selling for basically more than new on the used market, if they can be found). I was also considering finding one of those rare 1970s M42 Voigtlander-branded 35mm f/2.8s, but I already have the 35mm Distagon in Contax mount (which is apparently the same lens). Then I came across an old 35mm f/3.4 Zeiss Skoparex for a fairly decent deal. Thank goodness that the B50 to 52mm filter mount adapters are still sold out of Taiwan on eBay. What pushed me over the edge on the Skoparex was this nice profile from an excellent German-language review site. https://www.nikolaus-burgard.de/objektivvorstellungen/carl-zeiss/carl-zeiss-skoparex-35mm-f3-4/.

Is anyone regularly using these old Icarex lenses these days? Although they can be quite pricey and difficult to find, they seem to have a nice combination of rareness and rendering power that punch through their late-1960s design limitations. What I think is also very cool is the fact that many of the newer VC SLR lenses intentionally mimic the barrel designs from the some of the lenses made for Contarexes and Icarexes Such a nice touch.
