Hello,
I'm trying to plan a trip to Iceland this summer, anyone here can help me?

Which hotel to book in Reykjavik, where to stop, what I shall not miss..

And.. costs..

I'm sorry i cannot help you Roberto but your thread reminded me about the fantastic photos Ragnar Axelsson shot in Iceland... I think you already know his work but if you don't it's very inspirational if you're planning to going north,
Hope you'll get all the infos you need for plannig and then have a nice trip.

Dear god. Iceland. God's own country - probably the most awe-inspiringly beautiful place I've ever been.

Reykjavik is a great little city - definitely spend at least a night there working the strip of bars and restaurants, but then head across the coast. There's loads to do - fishing, whale-watching, horse-riding (icelandic ponies are the only horses in the world with a fifth gait - the tölt), snowmobiling, arctic-trucking... you name it.

You can't really go wrong - they are great, hardy people with a prickly but warm sense of hospitality, but there is one place that is simply beyond magical: a bay on one side, and a million-year+ lava field on the other, and not a person in sight in any direction.

There is nowhere in the world more special than Budir.

Oh - EDITED: forgot the hotel in Reykjavik - it's quite 'trendy', but for a boutique hotel (something I usually hate), it's exceptional. Just don't let them book restaurants or tours for you as you'll end up paying top dollar. www.101hotel.is

It's mostly about the country's swimming pool culture. The hot springs are the gathering spots, the center of community life. Of course, you'll go to the Blue Lagoon, which is quite a bit more pleasant in winter since there aren't as many people, but you might want to check out some of the locals' pools as well, if that interests you. I stayed at Hotel Fron, which is a good budget traveler's option, right in the heart of the city: http://www.hotelfron.is

I´m from Iceland ;)

There is alot you can do here and if you are planning on taking photos bring alot of rolls ;)

When are you thinking of coming here and for how long?

Must see places that every tourist goes to see here is the so cold "Golden circkle" Usually gone by 50 people on a bus. You go and see "Geysir" that has not erupted or some time now but there is a little one next to it that eruptes every 8-15 minutes called Strokkur. I´ve taken some pics of it......

Next stop, only 5 minutes away from Geysir, is Gullfoss the most powerfull waterfall in Iceland. To be honest he is not that special, there is alot of other waterfalls that are more beatiful. Next stop after that is Þingvellir. That is our national park and is a pretty cool place. That plave has alot of history. After that you go to the Blue Lagoon.

The place urban_alchemist talks about is Snæfellsnes. That is one of my favourite places here. There you have the clacier where you can go snowmobiling and also take a ride with a snowcar ( dont know the word for that car :) ) to the top.

Took these pictures there on IPP that was held there every year for a few years.

There is also places to surf there if you are into that and also alot of interesting beaches.

Another place that is my favorite here is Þórsmörk. Its a Valley between 2 Claciers. Truly amazing place.

There is so many things that you can do here but the prices are most of the time skyhigh. But the ecanomics here now are down the drain so they say it is not so expensive for tourist to come here now. 1$ is 126 icelandic krónas now, one year ago it was 60 krónas :mad:.

If you like to go to the pubs and have a drink or see some band playing there is always something going on here every weekend. Icelanders drink alot, me being an exeption though, never had a drink in my life :angel:. So beeing at the pubs and chating with the Icelanders can be interesting :)
All the pubs are in the same area , downtown Reykjavík, and most of them next to each other so you dont have to travel around town to go to the next one, never more then 10 min walk to the one furthest away.
There are also alot of hotels downtown. I´m not sure of the prices though on Hotel sooms here. Hótel Frón that Joe talked about is almost in the center of Laugavegur that is the biggest shopping/cafés/pubs street here in Reykjavík.

Thanks for your offer, my plans is to come over there in mid August, not yet sure 100%..

I'll try to match the places that you suggested on a map.. I'll send you some PMs when I'll be in trouble planning the trip..
