Yesterday my M6 took a little knock. Dropped literally only about a foot onto concrete and landed squarely on the corner of the rewind knob. It left a little ding, which I'm not actually bothered about because the camera was looking way too clean and I want it to look more used.

The problem arose when winding on the next frame. I didn't get that lovely buttery motion I'm used to, instead it was stiff like it was dragging or stuck on something. Then rewinding the film was the same. Feels like something got bent in there when it hit the floor.

It's not a HUGE problem, and it's a little better now that it's seen another 15 rolls, but is that something that can be easily sorted?

😕

Any advice much appreciated!

Depending on how bad it is, this may put undue stress on the film transport mechanism causing the gears to wear out prematurely. I'd get it fixed.

If you really think it looks too clean, drop it off a roof. Or maybe sprinkle it with battery acid. Then you won't have to endure the shame of a mint Leica that doesn't look like it's been through the Tet Offensive.

matt,
when the camera was dropped onto that area, the whole metal assembly was pushed inwards .. it is scraping the body only slight. Check at the back. You can straighten the housing (the round metal bit) by using a soft hammer. If you're not too concern about looks.. this would be the bext solution to get the whole rewind housing to clear the bottom so that you're not scrapping the body. Best of luck.
