What kind of contest?

I'll play!
We have done this twice before, the prize was bragging rights, the rules were straightforward. There are a couple of threads about the last FSU contests and we could adapt that format for this one, I think.
We would need to ask for a gallery specific to the contest to be set up. Don't recall how we did that last time. I think the person organizing the last one PM'ed Stephen (our kind host here) and asked him about it.
The first post in the sticky thread "FSU contest 2007 - rules" is what we did for that one. Frankly, I thought the three categories were one too many. My feeling is that the "any lens on FSU body" category was off topic but that's just me.

from 2007 :
*gallery will be with three subgalleries:
1- fsu lens and fsu body
2- fsu lens on any body
3- fsu body with any lens
many digital users (me included) might be interested second category.

1. How about any photo taken with a FSU lens as that's the bit that produces the image.
2. Must have been taken between the start date of the contest and the as yet to be announced closing date, this means we have to get out and take something new.
3. Maybe just one month to shoot and upload or do we all want 3 months?
Any subject any film

Would fixed-lens FSU cameras included? Like, say, an '89 L-CA?
If so, I think one month would be nice. If we give ourselves three, we might get lazy!

The contest is the first to find an FSU that works!
Seriously, sounds like fun. Would push me to limber up one of my FSU cameras again. But, I don't think using FSU lenses on digital bodies should be allowed. Kind of stretching the concept to the breaking point. There are no digital cameras from the FSU.

If we don't allow FSU lenses on a digital body we will have less people contributing and while i think it's not in the spirit of the game I'll accept it. The more people that come play the better
ANY product of Mother Russia is welcome ... rangefinder, Evil slr, fixed lens, medium format and full plate what ever makes you happy. Pinhole if you can find a Russian one
One month it is then that should get us all out doors
My .02 cents worth

I understand that most folks don't want to mess with film anymore, but perhaps a digital body with an FSU lens would be more suited to a lens contest than a general shootout.

I agree with both of you. I wouldn't want to exclude digital shooters, but find that digital technology kind of clashes with the FSU aesthetic. Then again, one might say the same about using modern Leica film bodies with FSU glass.

Great excuse to use my new Kiev-60 some more, I'm all for it.

less rules , the better.
1/. open ~ anything FSU goes , digi, T34 SLR whatever
2/. FSU COMBO, rangefinder and lens , print scan or neg scan
as you can see i do`nt like making the rules, so whatever is decided suits me.
Think 1 month is good.
Who will organise??

Do we want to be tough then and say FSU gear only? Almost all of us could afford to buy one just for the contest it's not like they are mega bucks.
Revised Rules
1. FSU gear only
2. Any format any film
3. Taken during the one month contest period
What about a prize? For example those of us that did not win will send the winner one roll of film ... that might limit ti to 35mm only.
That would give us

We are going to try to please everyone so how long do you need 2 months?
What do you think of FSU only?
No restriction on film type and format?
The prize idea?
Cheers

I like the idea of using only FSU gear—it certainly is cheap enough that anyone interested could pick up a camera and join in. I definitely don't think we should be placing restrictions on film or format though.

Maybe you are right, if one cant make it one cant make it, whether it is in one, two or three months, sometimes film travel fast through the camera, sometimes slow.
About the gear we have to relay on anyone's conscience anyway, but for me it will be all Kiev.

I think it should only be FSU gear, if it was not built under communism it should not be eligible. Digital entries are not acceptable cause FSU cams and lenses were made with film in mind.
I'm glad that so many are taking an interest.
