I've just seen this:

According to the seller, it's a *camera finder*, but he doesn't know what camera for.

Have you any ideas?

Thank you. :)

Looks to be a reflex viewer for a cine zoom lens. Attaches to the barrel of a lens likely c-mount.

Thank you all!

Very intersting ideas.

Where did you see it? Context might help. Anything to see from the underside?

On the net. -- Seller is a very decent second hand/antiques dealer and patron of the arts, but photography isn't his usual topic... he has no exact idea what it actually is, his presumption is "camera finder". -- I'll ask the seller for more pictures.

Without a doubt it is the viewfinder for a Sam Berthiot Pan-Cinor 3.4 25-100 in black.

The same viewfinder came on chrome lenses with the knurled bit on the VF being chrome instead of black as the one you’ve shown.

No need to guess or ponder any longer.

Just search eBay, you’ll find an exact match in black with its lens.

Its a crazy thing. So there must be a semi-silver mirror or prism in the lens? Crazy.

Dear B-9, you must be right.
