i think i would wait for the second generation...

i would like to have the soon to be released 14mm lens, the 23 and the 56...app. 21/35/85...

simple, compact and should cover most, if not all of my photo needs...

just sayin'...

You could always have those lenses with the first generation camera. :) I am likely putting mine up for sale this week. I just prefer film and this camera replaces my film cameras in the bag. In that regard, it is not nice!

The wide zoom lens should be pretty nice too. I bet that one would be fun.

I am glad I got rid of my DSLR gear when I did and went with the 1 st generation.
Wouldn't miss the inspiration and freedom it has given me now.
Have all lenses and will get the 14 when it comes out.
Just sayin'...

yes, i used my first dslr, a sony a100, with a sigma dc 10-20 (15-30 equiv), and it was an outstanding 'walk around' combo, as was my old 5d/17-40 combo. didnt stop me from shooting mf primes, but the UW-normal zooms are a nice casual walkabout solution.

i think the OP prime lens combo is extremely appealing if they perform like the present 35/1.4, which is spectacular. imo, one buys the xpro with an express commitment to fuji system lenses.

The X-Pro1 is definitely a quirky camera and has a significant learning curve. I can live with those quirks but can definitely see why others might find it frustrating. Rumors are for two new XF-mount cameras in the next year so I can see the merits to waiting.

I'm glad I bought it the day it came out and continue to use it. It's a hell of a camera. I just can't wait for the pancake.

I am usually a "wait and see" type.
but then it turns out I wait and see about the next and the next.

Sure is the "anti-GAS" , just keep looking and researching, and waiting.
(it is a good thing that researching is part of the enjoyment for me)

I thought, too, that I should wait for the second generation, as I rarely buy the first iteration of any product. But after having tried it, I didn't find anything quirky or strange (and I didn't want to wait one or two years for the next generation). I still don't know why people say there is a strong learning curve with this camera.

Its small and light, the 35mm is very sharp and the autofocus is accurate and not that slow. It is not on par with my EOS 1N, but it is not worse than my 350D (some Rebel XT I think... silly american Canon names). And it is faster than my Canonet's ;)

I plan to buy the 14mm and the 56mm. My only concern is about how they will display the framelines.

I think the only "quirk", for me, is the lens hood design. I find it absurd, as I cannot remove or replace the lenscap without removing the hood. So I guess I will just have to buy an UV filter and leave the lens cap at home...

I guess that my situation was different than yours : I was really tired of the big SLRs, so much that I didn't like shooting anymore, so my choice was to go all film with a Zeiss Ikon with all what that implies (costs from buying film, developping it and scanning it) or go with the xp1. Xp1 won and so far I do not regret it.

However it does not feel like a ZI, and even less like a Leica...

I have had the xp1 since it was released and I still love the camera.. Given how close it is to Photokina (sept time frame), I would say wait and c what the new x bodies are spec'd out as...

2 of the lens u are after will not be available till next year anyway, so it makes sense to wait. Just about everything u learned on the x100 translates to the xp1.

i'm not normally a waiter...(one who waits)...but the original focal lengths released with the body didn't interest me a whole lot...so waiting for the body was much easier...

Seems like Fuji tends to release in 2 year cycles (based on the S1/S2/S3/S5) - so you may be waiting a while...

A slippery slope, if you think it is better to wait for the second generation, would it not be better yet to wait for the third generation? And perhaps the fourth generation might be even better, so maybe you'd better pass on the third, and so on. If you are waiting for perfection, I hope you live a long time.m

So far there appear to be no bugs with the X-Pro (like the sticky shutters in the X100), so there does't really seem to be a reason to produce an "improved" version. I will get an X-Pro 2 if it is ever produced, but it is nice to have the current version for the meantime.

I have already bought and sold an XP1 but I can say that there really isn't a reason to "wait" unless the style of shooting is simply not your thing. Images are terrific, lenses are a good deal and the VF is unique and versatile.

I only sold mine as something had to go, it or the M8. My M glass simply won out but the XP1 is a terrific and unique camera.
