If you're waiting for your free filters

Just heard from Leica:

They are currently out of several filters. They are hoping to get them by the end of this month. The customer can expect to get his filters by mid-May.

I suspect this has also affected supply to retailers - I've been waiting over a month for an E46 UV/IR from a UK dealer.

I received a call from N. J. Leica after I called them to see how long to get my filters and was told the same. Out of stock on many sizes.
Got another a few days later and was told I would receive them by the end of the month, surprise I received them yesterday.
So there is hope

I ordered mine in early March and have not received them yet. Nothing to be alarmed about I guess, but if these are out in the US only, I might expect my filters someday soon, while a worldwide back order situation might leave me waiting longer as well...

Bottom line: just curious about what to expect...

Allendale told me that the UV/IRs come directly from Solms. They told me average shipping time was about 10 days. This was about a four weeks ago. I am still waiting. On the positive side, they were kind enough to lend me a filter.

I'm still waiting for E46 and E39 filters from Leica. Ordered in the end of March... haven't arrived yet. Sigh.
If anyone receives the filters in May, please let us know.

I got on the phone to Solms yesterday and a nice German lady told me that the E46 filters take three or four more weeks. Also (as others have stated) that they commissioned some other company to ship them.

Not sure this will be a worldwide thing, I could ofcourse only inquire for shippings to my own address in The Netherlands. Safest to say this might apply to all EU owners of the M8, I guess.

Hi all,

I got tired of waiting for the Leica Filters and ordered them here. German seller, delivered to my door in three days after payment. Beautiful B&W UV/IR-cut MRC filters, also stocks a load of non-Leica sized filters. Got a 40.5 mm and 62mm filter for my M-Hexes 50mm f2.0 and f1.2 there as well.

Recommended for any EU buyer, combined shipping throughout EU for add. EUR 10.00.

No connection to seller, apart from being a happy customer.

I ordered mines early April after an M8-2 purchase. First difficulty was to deal with a situation where my new camera S/N was already registered by someone else. After I had sent a detailed picture of the flash shoe, Leica stated they could send them to me.
Currently I am still awaiting them.

Any update on those who ordered a while ago? I placed my order in last week. I was hoping it'll be a week or two. If it's going to be 4-6 weeks wait, I might just go ahead and buy one myself.

OP here. Leica said in Feb I would get them by mid-May. I realize now they didn't say what year. Still no filters.

Hmmm, I see BH Photo, Adorama and other shops have the UV/IR filters in stock. So I don't get why they can't ship the filters quickly.

IR/UV filters are in short supply all over. Some sizes of B&W are backordered with no firm delivery date as well (for instance 46 mm). I guess what has happened is that Leica scored an unexpected success with the new series of Summiluxes, Super Elmarit and even Noctilux. The making of glass for UV/IR filters is a convoluted and time-consuming process, with 46 layers of coating. Normally it is made in batches of a few square meters. When it starts to run out, a new batch has to be started, and it takes time. If demand is unexpectedly high, there will be delays.

Latest correspondence from Leica Germany:
"... filter order is correct but they are not sent yet. Shipment will be mid/end June probably."
Have to love the very last word.
