My old (2001) McKeown's says a IIIg black Swedish military with engraved Elmar 50/ 2.8 would be $14-20,000. Add another $10,000 if the 35mm and 90mm matching engraved lenses were included.
The quoted price (2001) of a chrome IIIg is $600-900 for an Excellent condition, up to $1500 for Mint (i.e. probably never used).
So they are asking perhaps 5x the "value" of this set (or less if it has increased in value in the last decade), but not 100x
I purchased a bunch of Leica gear in 1995 and in the purchase was a like new IIIG. This was before evilbay so I sold it through my local dealer. He place an ad somewhere and sold it to an Asian buyer for $2,000. This was the body only and I sold the collapsible Summicron that was on it for $550.
Interesting how these have dropped in price in the past few years.
I know this company in Zell am See / Austria now for years - but I couldn´t understand how they still stay in buisness. Their prices are all the time 5 to 10 times over the market value! So who is buying there? Crazy wealthy Asians and Russians or who?
