Please excuse me if this has been posted before, but I wanted to give a quick heads-up about an exciting contest from Ilford:

ILFORD PHOTO HP5 Plus Challenge

Deadline: May 31, 2007

This contest is open to everyone in North America, and the grand prize is $1250 in cash PLUS they put your winning photo on boxes of Ilford Multigrade IV paper! The only rules are that you must take the photo with Ilford HP5+ and print it (no larger than 8x10) on any Ilford photographic paper. Subject matter is open, and there is a maximum of 10 entries.

my favourite film - superior, with good, strong contrast.
What a pitty - contest is open for U.S. folks only ... imagine, 1250$ - you can buy films,paper & chemicals and for a long time only search for motive and shoooot :)

I've just never liked it. I can't figure out why. I *should* like it based on it's characteristics, and handling. But I never have, and not for lack of trying. I love their PanF plus, but I don't like any of their films faster than that.
 
This is a subjective thing of course, but I would probably take HP5 over Tri-X any day (though I do use and like both for different reasons).
 
It's supposed to make all your pics look like they were shot in overcast England, but it's cheap and forgiving both in latitude and development in my experience. The TriX guys should hold their tongues, congrats to Ilford for a great idea and generous contest. And it's just for us on this side of the pond.....
I'm going to buy some HP5 and do some shooting.
 
This is great. My only problem is that I'll have to get some Ilford paper, which I'm not crazy about. But I'd take HP5+ over the current Tri-X any day, too. HP5 only makes everything look like overcast England if you let it. Give it enough light and process accordingly, and it's a brilliant film.

One of us has got to win this. Let's see if we can't get a RFF member's shot onto that paper box.

The first one to make a shot that doesn't look like overcast England wins a Pro Pack of Tri-X and Forte Polygrade V neutral.

does Tri X film give all the photographs taken on it that south of Lake Ontario" Rochester Look " ? ;-)

HP- 5 + and Tri X , both are fantastic B+W films.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll have to pick up some of that film and see how I like it. Maybe I'll get my 4x5 setup in time to shoot something on that and contact print it to send in :D
 
It says any Ilford paper, right? I wonder if that includes the "Ilford real B&W Paper" that MPIX prints digital photos on? I could scan some HP5 and have it printed on that stuff without using a darkroom....cause I don't have a darkroom. :)
