Ill-posed questions

Just thought of initiating a library of ``Which is better'' questions, related to photography in general, that are fundamentally ill-posed and/or absolutely qualitative and/or totally subjective. Let me start with some rather easy ones:
  • Film or Digital---which is better? :rolleyes:
  • Zeiss or Leica---which lenses are better? :bang:
  • HC-110 or Diafine---which is better? :confused:
  • TriX or HP5+---which is better? :confused:
Please note that it is possible to pose all these questions in more objective fashion; such modifications would probably encourage objective answers and not leave the reader guessing about what's going on in the minds of the person behind the post. But that would make life too easy, isn't it? :)

I'm pretty certain that you have encountered such questions many times; please make an effort to note them down. Also, the last think I intend is to start another personal attack session. Finally, in case anyone is wondering... yes, I'm venting :D but that's allowed in `Off Topic.' :p

These questions are still on the 1st level of illposedness in that their subjects roughly fall into the same category. For the 2nd level the subjects need to be orthogonal to each other, such as:

Diafine vs. Biogon
Leica vs. medium format (sorry, I know it was more specific in the recent thread)
Pepsi vs. Hamburgers
Cream cheese vs. USA

Ok, here are the definitive answers:
  • Film or Digital---which is better? --> Digital
  • Zeiss or Leica---which lenses are better? --> Leica
  • HC-110 or Diafine---which is better? --> HC-110
  • TriX or HP5+---which is better? --> HP5+
Feel better now? :D

some ridiculous lens comparos:
pre-war lens VS. lens made in canada between the period of 04/12/75 - 05/04/75 that says Leitz (not to be confused with canadian lenses made during the same period with the label "Leica")
version 3 tabbed at 2 and 11 o'clock VS. version 3.6 tabbed at 10 and 3 o'clock that has serial 54xxx05 (not to be confused with serial 55xxx05 - 57xxxx)

That's a very nice one :)

Philipp, I like the 2nd level ill-posed questions very much; they appear to be very good weapons of mass distraction that can be released when people are flying at each others' throats. The second question in your list is one of my favorites. :D

Alien vs. Godzilla

The story is true……….just the names have been changed to protect the guilty

:D

I saw "Alien Versus Predator" on cable a while back. Maybe the worst movie I've seen in years...

28-vs-35
neck strap-vs-wrist strap
chrome-vs-black

Bob
The last one is lovely :) I was also wondering whether 40mm-vs-45mm is `better' than 28-vs-35 :D

Also, Patterson-vs-Jobo

Best regards,
- Debasish.
