i'm buying a parking meter!!!
i heard that the city was refurbishing their old parking meters since they started this new and horrible system (all computerized and ugly blue boxes. so i called the city and got on the list of people interested in getting one....and just heard that i got one! it will take awhile as they have 3000 to work on before starting to sell them...and why do i want a parking meter? i love them! love how they look and i plan to start a photo project using them.
perhaps a film photo project...

Makes perfect sense to me. A post box would be cool, too. Nice pickup!
Look forward to the meter project :)

Here's a guy in Indiana who had some fun with some old parking meters! They're set to say EXPIRED!

I have an old parking meter, given to me by relatives, that takes pennies, nickels and dimes. Had a locksmith drill out and replace the lock, it's fully functional. I have it mounted on a metal post alongside my driveway. Hoping I can get some creeping vines to grow upon it.

Great Idea - you can do a "red couch" project with that meter. Take it to places where they really don't fit and put hem up = and of course get people to put money in them!
Chris, the tombstone shots are brilliant are perfect.
I think long winded politicians should have them - if they exceeded time, they have to put more money in!
I like parking meters - not for the purpose they are intended for - but I have quite severe nerve damage to my legs and "wobble" a lot when walking. Parking meters provide good support when needed. I should redesign my cane with the handle looking like the mechanism of a meter!

I do not drive to Chicago where they use $5/hr meters (really unsure of the really high cost). Chicago looses my trade and 10% sales tax does not help.

Buy a new Leica and $700 tax is insane.

A parking meter will be very cool! I had one of the old timber phone boxes for years ... my dog used to love sleeping in it. :)

I used to take pictures of parking meters, really interesting subjects. Then they went to solar powered (rarely work) credit card monsters and they have lost all photogenic appeal.

Strange thread, but timely. I can now explain what is going on in the kitchen of my office building. Seems like classic meters are being ripped out of the ground all over the country. These particular specimens have a higher purpose:
