i'm curious...

...wondering how people think...

would you rather have a second body or another lens?
what's your reasoning?

Joe,

My style is to carry a long-short pair with one camera with a wide and the othe a 50 in a M-body. By wide I mean either a 21 or a 28 for a spread. I don't like changing lenses because if you shoot a lot you miss too many shots changing lenses, and you also increase the possubility of dropping a camera or lens.

If you carry a camera or cameras all the time accidents are bound to happen. Also carrying two cameras for me means less missed shots. If I end a roll I grab the other camera; if I see a shot I just grab the body with the best FOV; and also if by chance I have a difficulty I have a backup.

Also know that at times I sometimes carry three M-bodies for 21/28/50. In medium format I generally tend to carry two cameras also for a spread FOV.

Are wew talking reincarnation here?

OK - on a more serious note - I would really like an X-T1 for better low light AF performance (got the X-E1); could surely do without more lenses, and the X-E1 would make a nice back up camera

Another lens.
I just put this into practice by buying an olympus 24mm shift lens converted to nikon mount without having a body (any slr in fact) to use it on. Thankfully I got a loaner F3hp from Cal, so I can do more than just fondle it.

Your question is about getting "a second body"... which assumes that I have one. However, the second part is about "another lens," which makes things a bit vague. Do you mean that I already have two lenses? Do you mean to say I must choose between adding a second body or adding a second lens?

Just for the sake of answering... Lenses are more important to me. I can have a thousand bodies, but they are worthless without a lens. However, one body and 5 lenses is to me the equivalent of having five cameras. That's a lot better.

So, my preference is a lens. 🙂

Depends on what I'm using that particular "camera system" for. If I'm going to be out with the system for a while, I want a second body for back-up in case the first craps out on me. If I already have a body and a back-up, then I'd want more glass.

As a buddy of mine used to say, "A body is just a box with a hole in it, glass is the thing."

maybe i was too vague...my thought was, 'you own one body and 2 lenses...do you buy a second body or a third lens'?

Depends on what lens - and what body.

I try to at least have two bodies with me when I'm out shooting, to have some kind of spread of focal lengths without having to change lenses.

Joe,

I favor a second body. My reasoning is to shoot more, miss less shots because I don't have to change lenses, and ideally I have most flexability to use the glass I already own.

Most people I suspect have more lenses than bodies. Why not utilize the glass you have, and extra lenses on a shelf kinda sit around unused in my case.
