A few days ago I acquired a CV 15/4.5 (yay!!!!!!) and finder.
This is my first external viewfinder and I'm a little leery of just tossing the R3A back in the bag with it mounted. Am I being silly, or is damage to the finder whilst being transported actually something to worry about?
On the other hand, the finder is quite stiff in the hotshoe and I think I'm more likely to break it by removing it once or twice every outing...

edit: I guess it might make sense if I point out that I usually carry my cameras vertically (portrait orientation) in the bag

When I use either the 21 or 28 on the R3a, I leave the VF on when the cam goes in or out of the bag. It is just more convenient to leave it on, and unless you're a klutz the VF will be just fine. Now unless your bag is usually full of shoelaces or laced undergarments, that might be another story...

I use external vfs all the time on my Bessa T and Leica IIIc. When I'm out and about shooting, I never take the vfs off, regardless whether I'm using a Lowe Pro belt pouch or a Domke 5xb bag. So far, no problems, but I'm a little careful when removing and stowing the camera w/ the external vf in place.

I never remove my VF but only when I change the lens. So far no problem. Actually I really think that it's more dangerous removing all the time than keeping mounted.
