Found this thread I thought fellow Yashheads might find interestin'. This is a 2005 thread from the Leica forum on photo.net. Seems a camera shop in Japan - Hayata Camera, takes the 35/1.8 lens off of old Yashica Electro CCs and converts them to Leica mounts. (Odd career choice for Mr Hayata after he retired from being Ultraman..) The cost for the converted lens in US dollars? $475 clams. (What did I pay for my CC? Got lucky. $36.00 fully functional in VG condition ; ) Some sample posts:

"...Hayata Camera's newsletter tells me that the enterprising Mr (Ms?) Miyazaki, renowned for converting Yashica Electro 35 lenses into Leica lenses (etc etc)...

I'm just curious why anyone would do this. Because they are cheap? Because they are good? Because Mr(s) Miyazaki enjoys doing it? Because it's pretty easy to do?

I was just wondering if the Yashica lens is SO good and SO much better than any Leica lens that it's worth doing the conversion!

I guess price is an issue, but then why the Electro 35 lens? Is it better than any other lens on any other cheap rangefinder or any similar Nikon or M42 mount SLR lens that could be adapted?

Inquiring minds want to know!

If the quote has said this guy has converted one lens, then you might assume it was just a project. But he's REKNOWNED for doing it, so it has apparantly made him famous and he converts lenseS, so he must be doing more than one...

Interesting. I found Hayata Camera's home page, read their product list. The Yashica lens that Miyazaki converted seems to be the 35/1.8 from the 35CC, which Frank Granovski doesn't have yet. Said not to be a bad lens. Hayata's price for a converted lens is 57,750 Yen.

I'm taking wide spectum antibiotics and feeling nasty...

Perhaps we need to club together and buy Brian Sweeny a lathe and some anab steriods...

Hm. Let me get this straight. I could leave my Yashica lens on my $35 GSN or pay $475 to have it converted so I could put it on my IIIf? Seems a no brainer - convert it!

we are talking here about a 35mm lens, not a 45. And yes it's a pretty good lens, for a f/1.8 aperture it is excellent.
$475? well, a bit too much indeed.
