Hi guys,

Just picked up an Industar 61 LD to use with my Canon P. I cla'd the lens (very easy to do with these russians). Mounted it on the P and the infinity focus is off slightly. I have the original Canon 50mm 1.8 that mounts and focuses perfectly on the P, my 7 and my Canon 11c. So my question may sound dumb, but do I attempt to re-adjust the rangefinder on the P to accomdate the Industar, or simply accept that the Industar is the result of the not-so-precise machining and not use it. I simply don't know if it is typical for one to adjust the cameras to accomodate the lenses.
Thanks!
Mark

Hard to guess what you have done to those Russians, while they are Ukranian, from here.
Only test with ground glass will tell.

You have a 50% chance that by moving the lens a little further away from the film plane your focus error is fixed. In that case you can make a donut shaped paper shim to go between the lens mount and the camera's metal lens facing. Should be very easy and quick to make. The other way, you'll have to go into the lens. Isn't your lens a 2.8? I'll bet that any small focus error will be covered by DOF, even wide open.

There are three screws on the lens barrel, among them there is a long one on the opposite side to the upper side (with DOF markings). Unscrew the long screw then it should be able to screw the lens block in or out, and screw the long screw back when the lens block is located at a location that gives correct focusing.

There are lots of screws but that is how i fixed my I61 (1960s zebra version). You dont even need to fiddle with shims.

I61 at f/2.8
