Do you think that instagram kills ANY other types of photography? As people now buy iPhones and Androids loosing their interest even in low-end SLR's (quality is the same), Instagram makes it triumphant procession with its twisted "art", filters making all the photos standard and so on...
No singurarity, everything is identical to each other.

did cross-processing kill photography?

did hdr kill photography?

1970s family shots taken with cassette film cameras and flash cubes look all the same as well. did that kill photography?

the vast majority of all pictures taken have always been crap - where's the problem?

HDR kills photography by no means. That infernal colors and contrast ...Maybe somebody has the vision like this I do not know...
Abt cassette film cameras...You know for sure that it made all the photos same. Was it murder? It was economic blast. You printed 36 jf 36 from the film not thinking whether they are good or not. check your 9*12 little albums.
Cross-prosessing is the result of work (developing) and chance. Instagram shot is result of standard filter application

i also don't get what's so bad with people not being interested in dslr's. i've never cared about them. most photos taken have always been for preserving private memories. with the digital age taking a photo has virtually become free, so people start to have take them just for fun and do funny things with them afterwards. it's just another way to spend your time. like video games, tv, etc.

i don't see how this could affect "serious" photography (whatever that is).

I suppose Instagram fakes film photography, which on one hand is kind of inauthentic and a bit tacky. On the other hand, perhaps 1% of people using it will wonder what the "RVP" text means, and research real film photography. It's probably a positive thing all round, although personally I have less than no interest in doing it.

Some people can make great photos with Iphone and some of them have Leica M9 and make disaster photos...so...Photographers create photos not a tool.

Like jammcat said : Go take some picture and enjoy it...

no/ they do not check, I asked a lot of people. They are following 'color trends' if it can be called so

I did both, shot photo with dSLR and mangled it through Instagram 😀

seriously. Instagram, Hipstamatic add some pop to otherwise bad quality cameraphone shots. my guess is they wane away once cameras become better, or when new toys arrive replacing these.

Not a tool? Why are you buying Leica then?

I saw a lot of this stuff. You have no individuality. Colors are alvays the same and they are far from real.
I mean only postprocessing talking abt individuality of course

I have Leica because I like mechanic cameras. I have also Zorki so...
Point is : Photo with great compositon and interesting motive CAN bi great photo even if it is NOT taken with great camera...Photo with bad compositon and not interesitng motive CAN NOT be great photo even it is taken WITH great camera.

what is real then? Is a photograph only good when it looks 'real'? why should we take photos then? they are never real - just a 2-dimensional projection of a short moment in time. is it wrong to shoot in b/w then because that's far from looking real?

don't get me wrong, i hate that iphone filter stuff as much as you do, but your point was that it might kill photography and that's just nonsense. it's just a trend as you said which means it will go away before photography will.
