A couple of interesting software developments:
First, latest update (V 8.3.3) of Vuescan is available and has added some very useful control over curves. I'm using It exclusively for all of my scanning now from my Nikon Super Coolscan 5000 and my Epson 3170 flatbed.
Second, I have been trying out new noise reduction software called "Noise Buster"
available from www.akvis.com. IMHO this beats Noise Ninja hollow. The interface is much more user friendly and I find that it works a treat for reducing grain on B&W scans even though it is primarily aimed at digital camera users
