Well-known
Yes - I was one of the people standing in line last night (2 hours 20 minutes)
It was one of those things - I was enjoying myself despite the cold, having a good time with fellow addicts. Apple was really well organized. The distributed coffee, tea and hot chocolate.
It was like a party, I was having fun, waiting impatiently for Apple to allow me to pay $700 for a new toy. but would I respect myself in the morning ?
First impressions
lighter than the original
The thing is fast. Beautiful screen as we have come to expect
It has a camera , actually 2. The front facing one is crap - but functional for facetime/skype. the rear facing one is better
the biggest change is the case - you almost have to get a case to protect the screen when not in use.
The case attaches via magnets and is a single flap (4 segments) covering the front, and then wraps around the back when open.
opening the cover turns on the device from standby - kind of like a refrigerator's light. The magnets hold it fairly well - but it's not too hard to remove or get pulled off with a bit of force. the magnets are strong enough to be able to pick up the device by only the cover, let the iPad hang free - and it won't drop t
the case folds into a triangle profile stand to hold up the iPad on a table (upright or fairly horizontal with a moderate tilt)
You also need to fold over the outside segment to use the rear facing camera
now it you were to have a 2 sided case - you need 2 holes aligned so that when the case is folded over - the rear camera is usable, and the front screen visible
The iPad comes with PhotoBooth - hours of entertainment
also you can purchase iMovie and edit video directly on the device
all in all a nice improvement over iPad 1 - but not revolutionary.
seeing all the people in line and hearing news reports - it's hard to imagine any other tablet device getting significant traction.
This time I skipped the AppleCare extended warranty - conceding reality, I will probably be upgrading to iPad 3 in 12 months
anyone interested in a pristine iPad 1 ?
