Is getting a Leica SCNOO worth it?

Depends on whether it's worth it to you. If you are into LTM Leicas and want to shoot rapidly, perhaps you have a use for it. My Leica Illustrated Guide II by Jim Lager shows it attached to the IIIc and says it was developed for the IIIc and IIId. So if you have one and need the rapid-wind capability, go for it. Or, if you are a collector, you may just want one to round out your collection.

Thanks for the info
The seller said that the SCNOO will fit the iii. I only use it for street shooting so it might not be worth it
Depends on the price, of course.

I have one that fits a III/IIIa, but I rarely use it.
I recall when the SCNOO was introduced the Leicas needed an adaption to the winding stem to use the SCNOO rapid winder. Two indentations for the teeth of the winder to grab it
If you're a little handy you can get the same speed by running the length of your index finger along the winding knob (It'll take some skin off, until you get some "Leica calluses"

Nice
but wait, you need an adapter in order to use it?

It will not fit on older camera models. After the SCNOO was introduced all the cameras had the correct stem to use it.

Ok so now I know it'll work with my iii (208xxx). Is it actually worth getting for street shooting?

There are four kinds of SCNOO's: black and nickel (very rare), black and chrome (extremely rare), chrome and IIIc (only chrome). If you want a rapid winder (like the Leicavit) they are superb. Usually they need some adaptation to a specific body. You need a good repairman for that job.
Often the silk ribbon is broken. It is quite difficult to repair it yourself.
The SCNOO is great. It makes your camera much faster and it is much lighter than a Leicavit.
Erik.

Yep, I'm gonna get a chrome SCNOO for my black iii! Everything is working and the ribbon is still in tact, in very good condition.
Might get it since you said it's great! Thanks for your reply

For street photography that might be handy, but I never quite needed it.
As for broken silk straps, mine has a metal strap from a tape-measure in it that Johan put in it back in the day
