Is it just me, or am i weird?
I like to take pictures but not really for the pictures sake but i like to use the camera and all the equipment which comes with it.
I just like to use the camera, i am not a collector only have about 50 cameras and or bodies. I actually use them depending on the mood i am in.

I will develop the film and make a contact sheet via my Epson v700, but then i loose interest and very seldom do a proper scan with the Plustek.

I know this is wrong for many reasons, Photography is about the Image, Sorry not for me it is about using the equipment, once i push the shutter release it is done,

Am i actually strange or am i not alone?

Not alone at all. I get just as much joy out of the use of a nice camera as I do from the pictures captured.

I hate to break it to you though, but with 50 cameras, you are a collector...lol

You're not Robinson Crusoe ... certainly not round here.

And I've just noticed it's Friday! :D

You are not alone and that´s nothing to call weird. You prevent fine mechanics from rotting and that´s noble behaviour!

I sometimes feel the same way. I enjoy the process of photography as much as the final image. Using my M6 or my Mamiya 7 is a real pleasure. Of course, I love when that translates into great images, but sometimes that's not front of mind when I'm actually shooting.

Nope.

In my case, it was the quest for "thee" camera(s), film and/or digital and then to get back to photography.

Now that I have "thee" cameras...

Oh my, I have a problem.

I do like equipment, but only when I'm interested in making photos. When I took 10 years off from photography, I didn't own any serious cameras.

Around here, there are many who like cameras more than photos...and there is nothing wrong with that.

I don't have near the time for photography I wish I had. But when I am taking photos, I certainly have an idea that I want a print, whether snapshot size or larger. Do I convert everything to a print, well, that's another question. I'll get back to you. :p

It sounds like either your interest in photography is peripheral, ie the enjoyment of the cameras as opposed to the results, or else you have not poured in enough effort to get past the initial setback many of us have, of not being happy with our images. If the former, whats wrong with it, hobbies are meant to be enjoyed and thats what you're doing with yours. If the latter, I would ask myself how do I improve my pictures that I'm not happy about.

On a sidenote, I enjoy shooting my film M far more than developing my film, and printing or scanning it. In that regard, while I enjoy shooting my M3 a lot more, I am currently shooting with my nikon dslr's for the results they are producing.

By the way, if you enjoy the process so much, perhaps you might consider your own darkroom printing instead of scanning, as it may appeal much more to the hands on experience you enjoy when shooting your cameras. Darkroom work is far more craft-y/ hands-on than digital post-processing and printing, and can be far more enjoyable as a process for that reason.

..or door number three, farm out all the processing/ scanning/ printing to someone else, and just enjoy the results when you get them back :)

Hmmm, you start to wonder why he puts film in it if he's not going to print anything...

OTOH, it must save money, no film to buy, no repairs needed when camera fails, etc, etc.

Regards, David

Thanks for the encouragement, i am thinking of taking out the RB67 tomorrow with tripod, Will get looks from people but who cares.
It certainly is the process of the taking the image, maybe i am hooked on old technology.
I will just keep on going using up film as long as i can.
The funny part in my way of thinking is that i dont care if others like my pictures or not, just could not care less.
It is just a hobby and i get plenty of enjoyment out of it.

Yes i have done the darkroom think 30 years ago and really did enjoy it, but when we moved into our current house 20 years ago there was no room for it, come to think of it still have enlarger and trays and stuff in the shed.

I wouldn't use the word weird. I think you are just a member of a minority group.

I also think you should do what gives you satisfaction. This is the purpose of a hobby/recreational activity/avocation.

Decades ago I owned a sailboat and was on the water most weekends. Out of 200 or so boats, there were always a few boat owners who would show up, clean their boat for most of the day, and the sit around at the dock as if they were on a patio. The boat rarely left the dock. But since they did this every weekend, they obviously enjoyed it.

No, I like using the camera as much as the final result. Maybe more. Sometimes I don't have a final result in mind and just want to use the camera...

I know this is wrong for many reasons, Photography is about the Image,

Is it? It may not be profitable (and hence not fashionable in our market crazy world), but the notion that art is about the process and what it does to the artist has been very widespread in other times and locations. Given the hidden nature of cave paintings, it may well have been the driving impulse at the start of it all...

My main objective is to make photographs, but over time I've pared my cameras down from many to just a couple Ms and a Barnack. So while the end result is still the image, I would have to admit that using the gear and the medium (film) that I like to use is a significant part of the equation.

50 camera? Yup, you're a collector. And there is nothing wrong with that!

There's two ways to look at it. There is the image making artistic side and there is the technological interest. You can see this extending to other areas. The easiest to see is in listening to music: Listening to music and putting together and comparing different systems and formats. It is the old argument of Art v. Technology. Or, isn't photography an Industrial Art not a Fine Art for that reason.

Reminds me of when UPS and the weather delayed my last shipment of Kodachrome. Oh well, the pictures in my head were probably better anyway.
