hi there,

I am a newbie in photography and i am going to buy a Voigtlander R4A recently. Will there be any discount for these kinds of camera during the boxing days? Or I should not expect that would happen and go straight to buy one this week? 🙂

Thank you very much!

Please forgive me but this is an unfamiliar use of 'boxing days', at least to me, and as a lover of the English language, I am intrigued.

In English (in England), 'Boxing Day' is the day after Christmas.

Apparently it has another meaning I had not previously encountered and I should be genuinely grateful for further explanation.

Cheers,

Roger

Raeck must belongs to one of the many Commonwealth nations, in Sydney Aus, ppl starts to line up in front of retail stores since 9pm on 25/12 with sleepbags and a "do not disturb" sign, in hope to be the 1st to get a bargain the next day... I'm sure Mr Bean did the same thing in one of his episode. I dont think they will be any discounts on the R4*, at least not from the head bartender, he only celebrates Thanksgiving

I think (outside of California) the best is to "buy it now" from Stephen@ebay and get the MS 20-30% discount. For example ebay item # 360093820283. Who knows if live.com still exists in a month from now.

No sense to wait for boxing day (or "Stefanstag" as I know it).

Best,

Roland.

Having spent some time working in retail at certain times I can tell you that Boxing Day sales are often for items that have been discontinued, are about to be discontinued, or the retailer is overstocked and wants to reduce inventory before year end.
None of the Bessas seem in imminent danger of being discontinued and it's doubtful any retailers would have an overabundance of stock.
I wouldn't get my hopes up for a sale.

Christmas is strictly a one day holiday in Portugal.

We work the day before, normal hours, and we work the day after too.

And there are no sales.

There are also no Voigtlanders.

In fact in the city where I live there are no film cameras at all.

Easter holiday is complicated. It took me years to understand it.

Officially the Friday is a holiday, and Monday is a regular working day.

Except in Alentejo where there is a cultural tradition going back hundreds of years. Here we agree to work on the Friday, and have the Monday as a holiday instead.

Except that if the bosses in Lisbon are having their own holiday on Friday they cannot be checking up on us; so we can renege on the deal and take both Friday and Monday as holidays!

Big businesses such as banks and the postal service are not part of the swapped holiday deal. So they close on Friday. And they must open on Monday, but we're all on holiday so they have no customers.

And we always eat lamb. In the days and weeks before Easter people will earnestly inquire as to whether I've got my Easter lamb yet.

Somehow it works in an odd sort of way.

If I time a visit to Corfu correctly I get two, a Gregorian and a Juliann one, a big thing over there, the room-rate doubles. They all have a very relaxed attitude to holidays out of season, then work 7 days when the tourists are there

They also eat roast lamb a lot.

Now I am sure I should take a train to London next week and get a R4a home. Haha
