Hi,

My anti-panda black paint M7 had a slight mishap, and I scratched/dinged one corner of the bottom plate. Fortunately, that seems to be all that was hurt. I was thinking I might get an MP plate as a replacement, if it's compatible. Is the MP plate essentially the same? I'd also love the auf/zu labels the MP plate sports, but that my M7 plate lacks.

Sorry - you're going to replace it because it has a scratch? That's a sad story.

Please would someone answer the question I asked, instead of making comments on my desires. I want facts, not opinions.

Does the MP base plate fit the M7?

let's be nice folks, there is no crime in wanting nice looking gear.

sometimes i think photographers get carried away with some romantic & idealized vision of what a photographer 'should' look like - as in some war correspondent with beat up gear.

I know, I know.. it's just funny sometimes. Let me quote what my friend said to me earlier:

"horst was telling me about some of these collectors

he heard of an m6 deal once where the buy and seller refused to open the box and to confirm the deal they in fact X-RAYED the container"

Sometimes.. certain goodies become collector goodies and never for use 🙂

extreme colectors go to extreme lengths to get mint never touched the air gear.

but look at steve's work and you'll find a user not a collector.

Eh, you're right. The guy probably can't load his film with that dent in the plate. Probably doesn't close up. I shouldn't assume that it's just a cosmetic reason. My bad.

Thank you, again.

I think that here, as opposed to pnet, one usually finds that the discussions end with some civility and the occasional mea culpa - at least until someone arrives with an orange-yellow-blue striped bellows to brandish toward the coals.

Hello Magus,

good to see you back. I believe you are right in some of what you say. Some of the earlier replies were seemingly made mala fide. To be fair though, Back Alley intervened straight away, and he did so with his usual even-handedness and panache.

Leica users, esp. those of us infatuated with our cameras and lenses, attract much more taunting than bonhomie seems to allow. My explanation for it is that the clientele of Leica is quite diverse, effectively encompassing artists, snobs, gearheads, and many more besides. Some interlocutors tend to see in the Leica user all these attributes, and in particular the snob and the wannabe artist, when clearly one may exemplify any, some or none of these properties. That's what, in my mind at least, explains some of the totally uncalled for taunting.

However, I beg to differ from you on what you say about RFF. Older members always chip-in when there's a shred of evidence of undue sarcasm. I 'm sure sometimes there's quite a lot "lost in translation", even when it comes to people who speak the same language.

magus, maybe you don't realize...but how you came back with your post was actually stronger and, dare i say it, worse than the original offense.

especially if you read the following make nice posts.

i appreciate you're wanting to help out in this type of situation but sometimes the cure can be made worse than the disease.

tell me more...😉

The "anti-panda" comment gave the initial post a real masturbatory sense, I thought. Not really a relevant piece of info at all, more of a "hey, check out my gear." I think that's totally fair as long as he's willing to acknowledge/ignore the same magnitude of irrelevant comments in return.

In retrospect, I am more likely to return attitude when a question such as the one above is posed with a little humility... my 2 cents. He might have simply asked if the piece fit. Instead, he essentially handed out the invitation.

adayoncedawned - Surely you 're wrong on this. SDK does not come across at all like that. And, you will agree, nobody hands invitation for derision just because he happens to like his gear. Lets put it this way: if someone has a question about his M7 or MP or... where else to go and ask but the Leica forum in RFF?

In my book Magus is one of the very good elements in RFF. Highly opinionated, yes. But rude or "with issues" not.
