Is paper the new "shoebox of images" for when there isn't hardware to read DNG / JPG files?

I suppose the philosophy is to print out the digital images that I like, and, to make the effort of printing, rather than just transferring them to hard drive.

The follow-on question is "just how long lasting is Epson Glossy paper".

The answer is...it depends (but you knew that). Put the prints in that shoebox, close the top, and put them under your underwear in a dark drawer. They will likely last generations. Just like those old silver prints. But, really, what's the point if you are going to just hide them away?

I have inkjet prints, though, on various Epson papers, from the dawn of epson inkjet printers, that still look great. I have silver prints made in a darkroom that don't.

Check back in a hundred years. ;)

I doubt you'll have anything to worry about. DNG and Jpeg are standards... with a lot of timeless images being made in those formats. Programs will have to read them for a long time.
