Is there any way to completely remove the effect of an orange filter on color film?

Hello all, I took a picture that I rather liked, but I had been switching lenses quickly, and I used an orange filter by mistake. I had been using the lens with an orange filter for black and white film, and then I slapped it right on to the body shooting color film, forgetting to take it off. Anyway, the first shot I took, I liked, and I was wondering if there was any way to salvage it (other than coverting to black and white). I have been able to edit it a bit, but it always comes out looking strange. Is there any actual way to recover most of all of the original color? It seems like there would have to be, but I have not been able correct it, even with color neutralizers like photokit color and so on...
Here is the original file, and then my black and white conversion. Please bear in mind that these are both digital photos of slides, so the original slide has much better highlight and shadow detail.

The girl on the left should be in a yellow jacket, but the best I can get is a white jacket...the best I can get looks like it has been cross-processed.

Here is the black and white photo:

No, I'm sorry to say but I think there is no way to correct colour. You can colour it manually if you want. Dynamic range of slide film is not wide enough to record supressed by orange filter blue and green components. IMHO.
I like very much B&W version, BTW. May be that was a rock and this shot meant to be B&W? :)
Eduard.

I think that would be a really really reallly tough thing to do

But I like the way the pic looks in B&W, why don't you use that one
.... when god sends lemons, make lemonade ..... :D

Stuart, the same thing happened to me once... and only once. And, like Eduard and Tritrisol said above, there's no known fix (when I posted the photo considering it a "creative accident" I was told about it). However, your B&W is really good... so, it's a fateful thing! :)

Thanks guys, this was about as close as I could get:

Which is very weird because the jacket should be bright yellow. For example, here is a photo that was taken shortly after without the filter:

The colors are off, that did turn out very well as Melanie said.

Actually, I really like that.

Stuart,

AFAIR, the 'wavelength transmission' chart for the B/W filters is showing that each filter kind of cuts all wavelengths until a specific frequency. The yellow one just some, orange more and red even more.. This would mean that there is no information left regarding the violet, blue, .. (don't know how far the orange filter went) on your neg. I'm not 100% sure (maybe what I've seen was just some simplified chart for marketing purposes?) but this would explain why it would be impossible to get all the colors back

Regards, Robert

BTW: I like your 'as close as..', too!

It looks like a mix of cross processing and color IR film.. very cool.

Perhaps you could try hand-painting it in PS with color layers. Would take a long time, but may give you some other artistic inspiration.

Stuart,
I applied all my PS tricks to the picture. None gave a decent result.
Reason: (as already explained) by using a colour filter some light spectral data is not recorded on film.
Suggestion:
do a good B&W conversion job
P.S.
Tell the family/friends this was the goal and never say it is the correction of a "mistake"

Well, must add to those liking it, I love it and in fact reminds me a bit of the special 'tint' you find on certain movies, Saving Private Ryan coming to mind just now.

Thanks for the idea, since I have some outdated slide film and of course some orange filters

Awesome! I´m also one who likes the look very much! I´ve tried light green Filter with colour film and couldn´t get any decent results (I knew the style I was looking for but didn´t know how to archive, now I know!) I´ll have to try this out....

Do you guys and gals think that Negative Film would deliver different results than Slide?

StuartR, Your "mistake" is a blessing for me ;)
best regards,
Friedrich
