Leica LTM Is this a real Elmar?

Leica M39 screw mount bodies/lenses
I am not a connoisseur, but I think it looks as fake as it can get.

(edit: as I said I'm not expert, if Walker thinks it's real it may very well be. Personally I think the engravings are too rough for a real elmar)

I'd say it's a genuine Elmar but I see some damage to the front surround. Probably won't hurt performance. The serial number on the brass ring around the optics is a pretty good indication that it's not a fake. The name engraving is much better than any fake I've seen and the aperture slider is correct.

Shouldn't a real Elmar be marked as 5cm instead of 50mm ?
Roland.

I just pulled an early nickle-plated pre-war Elmar from my drawer and it's marked 50mm.

Roland.

some Elmars from the 1930s were marked 50mm

the aperture blades look like they are near the front element like a real Elmar 50mm/5cm

If it's a fake, then as long as the price is right, it's no punishment having to take pictures with an Elmarski..

Damage prevents getting a filter on, but it appears as genuine uncoated Elmar.

Most of the filters which an Elmar 5cm used were of the "slip on types", the damage sustained by the Elmar in question won't probably hamper the use of such filters.

Its a real Elmar. :D
