Any opinions as to whether this is a repaint? I am rather suspicious because all the "true" black Canon's I have seen pictures of, have black shutter releases and this one is the normal colour.

real or not i would never pay that much for a 7.
that does look like brass under the wear of the paint.

I wouldn't pay that much either. As for the brass, a good re-paint should take the chrome off first. Also it is a low feedback seller with very little activity in the last year and then suddenly a very expensive camera. No not for me!

the black Canon 7 shown on page 189 of Peter Dechert Canon RF book has the chrome shutter release like that one on that auction site also.

Wel, if it's a repaint it sure looks nice. But not that much nice!

Buying a rare black paint camera these days is like buying an old master painting without a pedigree. Indeed, what you really need as an attributed paper trail back to the original buyer, so you know it hasn't been painted and patinated.

The camera looks to be in user condition. I wouldn't pay that either. It does seem to be the original black paint...but these days you really can't tell.

user condition, worn painting, has the white dot on selftimer level... I would guess it's authentic. But as John said, without a paper trail, a guesswork, which isn't appreciated in this money range.
IMHO, black don't adds elegance to a big camera like the 7....

Wait a while after it has been sold and then ask the buyer if he thinks it is a fake.
