Is this real?

Interesting and 100% feedback score...

Trouble is, I can think of a god few reasons for and against it being genuine.

Real What? Its a late J-3 barrel, the internal mounts may be original Zeiss but no one can ever tell whether the glass is Zeiss or Soviet. So it is a bunch of "real" pieces making a whole what? Hopefully (hope being a low level of reality) it takes good pictures. For that price one can do a lot better

As outfitter says, a real what? The only real question is whether the glass is Zeiss or soviet, something that probably needs an expert to say. It doesn't look as though the seller is trying to pass it off as something it's not, he states it's a J-3 mount etc.

It's a unique lens but whether it's something special is questionable at best. The sort of thing Brian Sweeney & co make for their own amusement but I don't see why it should be valuable.

Am just a poor photographer looking for avery poor man's Summilux. Don't know much about the intricacies of these old Soviet lenses apart from what I read online about the great planned economy not always delivering in quality control. But not only they did defeat the nazis thanks to their dedication and some brilliant tanks aircraft and other military hardware, they were also the first in space. So they must have been doing something right.

Hi redsnapper, I own a ca 1957 made Jupiter-3 ( probably with Soviet glass, not Zeiss ) and a wartime Zeiss Sonnar 5cm f/1.5, also half a dozen Contax mount lenses from before and after war, in my experience they are all good as long as there are no bad scratches, no fungus, no separation, and no tampering by people who know nothing about lens CLA.
That Ebay lens may seem a bit overpriced, but probably it works as it should and much less expensive than a genuine Zeiss in LTM. Or buy a Contax mount Zeiss, they cost less than LTM, and add an Amedeo adapter for your LTM cameras.

Thanks for that. I use M cameras guess will have to mount the LTM adapter to the Amadeo, isn't it a case off too many adapters spoil the...What about the 1949 J3? Are bids going too high in your opinion?

Just realised that the Amadeo is an M adpater. Thats great apart from the cost, defeats the object really when theres always the Canon or Nikon LTM lenses which have good reviews and nice photos posted on this site.
