I accidently stopped by a kodak supra 800, this speed is practically non-existant here, mostly for theatres and dark places where u want to shootw/o flash, the thing is that i'm goin to Luxor & Aswan tomorrow, i was wondering if anyone can provide me with a quick table like exposures...One mroe question, are day light situations hopeless??? Becaus ei only have a couple of feds and the max shutter speed is 1/500..

I've used it before with my automatic cannon and nothing worried me cause it was a speedy camera that needed a speedy film..

You'll need a slower film. Buy some at te airport if you have to. The sunny 16 rule would say that you'll need to shoot at 1/800 and f16.

Oddly enough I'm scanning some negatives I took on a trip to Luxor in 1989. Grain is much less of a problem these days - this was ISO 200 film.

At Luxor/Aswan if it is mid-day this might be slightly overexposed but you should be OK.
Bright sun - 1/500 f/22
Few clouds - 1/500 f/16
Cloudy bright - 1/250 f/16
Cloudy or shade - 1/250 f11
Overcast - 1/250 f/8

Or you could use a ND filter or polarizer to knock off a stop or two.

Thx a lot guys...

A very nice photo Steve, i've slower films, fuji's superia 100 and kodak's ultra 400 so no problem, adding some grain is nice, different effect, all photos are neat these days 😀

I always either underexpose or over expose 😀 So i guess no problem, i'll try few shots with that and then i'll keep the rest for low light conditions...

For a trip like that I'd want to take a camera that worked 🙂

Apart from Luxor and the west bank opposite places to visit are Dendra to the north and Edfu and Esna to the south. Edfu is amazing. The best preserved temple I've seen. When I was there you could hire a taxi for a day for very little, things may be a bit different today.

Oh dear, looks like old negative films have more noise than my 20D rated at ISO 3200

I am a newcomer to film photography and a digital guy working his way trough film, so I guess I have only used film that has been manufactured in the last couple of years.

Most high-sensitive films have the actual speed lower than box rate: half a stop overexposure over that usually makes sense. Learned it the hard way with Konica Centura 1600 :/
