.....the RFF has no Email notification for the Gallery. At least I could not find any switch to enable such a feature, I'm a bit dumb tho, mybe I missed it.
Going through my pics from time to time I notice that quite a days or weeks or months ago some friendly folks have left flattering comments again and arrgh, I did not know it.
Normally, if somebody does that extra mile with writing a comment I would like to have the possibility to send a short "Thanks !" back, which isn't possible either here.
Other galleries offer the possibility to answer directly via Email and I always found this to be a useful feature.
So if the software has the feature and it is just disabled from what reasons ever, I would like to suggest to enable it. It can make new connections among the members, I personally found out that I mostly like pics of those folks who like mine.
Best,
bertram

i think there is a box to click when you upload a pic that allows for an email when a comment is made.

Well, betram, you might want to look on this from "the bright side".
At least you also do not get an e-mail when someone posts a negative critique!

I could stand it, and 'til now there haven't been any negative comments.

In case it is a genuine feature of the software, which can get enabled as an option:
This would make it much easier to organize a photo related dialog.
Sometimes I use PM as a crutch , cutting the comment underneath the pic and pasting it into a PM , but that isn't very elegant IMHO and the answer comes via PM again, and not via Email, which would be better.
Does not solve the prob that don't know at all if somebody has commented one of my pics.
A basic condition would be tho that everybody provides an Email adress in his user profile.

Maek,
I wanted to ask this 100 times and I always forgot it again. Going through my albums yesterday , looking for some candidates to pick out for the trash can I found a lot of comments I had not seen yet , reason enuff now to put up a thread now.
Usefilm for example has even a friends list and a link to "My Friends latest images" in the section "My Usefilm",
So you get automatically updated with new pics of members you have put on your list because you like especially their style and approach to photography.
Thus the photos get an durable connecting element between members, , more than the same camera can achieve this effect. Everybody finds (photographically) something like HIS personal home place within the diversity of the whole community.
I would not go back to Usefilm anyway, too much oversaturated and over-PSed digital SLR pics with vinyl look ?

Is the name "Usefilm" just another case of "hilarious" postmodern irony then, Bertram ?
BTW, did you used to frequent pgallery? I think we may have exchanged comments there in the past. I'm known by my full name there.
Your point about notifications is a very good one. This site has a very strong sense of community and it's a shame to see it break down slightly when it comes to gallery comments. I'm sure Jorge has enough on his plate at present but would also like to see this feature if possible. I think it used to be there too.

I have no clue how they found "Usefilm" to be the best name for that gallery, actually "Nofilm" would have been correct. Film nuts are a tiny minority there.
Irony ? Well maybe, but if so, this is damn provocative irony, isn't it ?
I've been at pgallery, yes, and actually I still have pics there. Found it a bit dull, for many a place to dump any sub-average stuff without any information.
Some good photogs there anyway, I admit.

Bertram

I have found that when you click the "my photos" link from the gallery home page, any photos with new comments will magically rise to the front so at least you can see when someone has dug up an older one.
All your suggestions would be good, but this may help in the meantime...
Tom
