I've put my flag in the window today. I grew up in Saskatoon and will always keep my Canadian citizenship wherever I am.

"Oh Canada,
Our home and native land.
True patriot love,
In all our sons command..."

Yeah, I know it's "... in all of us command"
But, that always sounded a bit contrived to me.

Vive le Canada!

Yeah Canada! and God Bless the Queen. I wonder what she's got in store for us tonight in her address.

Never could come to grips with the newer version of O Canada myself. Still no reason not find the flag to put up though. Everyone have an enjoyable and say one.

What is Canada day? And what has the Queen have to do with it? Parades & BBQ sounds really good .:D

Canada Day or Dominion Day celebrates the Confederation of Upper/Lower Canada, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia into one "Canada" on July 1, 1867. The other territories slowly voted to join in.

Canada is not a republic like the US or Germany. We are a constitutional monarchy with the Queen as the Head of State. She reigns, but does not rule. All the legal proceedings of our land are still done in Her Majesty's Name.

I just wonder how canadians have been able to maintain their/a culture as opposed to their southern partners/neighbours

I agree, and I never tire of hearing BTO on the radio. Bryan Adams is a good singer & photographer.

Thanks for the history lesson. Now that the internet has brought all of us closer togeather, and now I can see all of these great photographs in the gallery from far away lands that i'll probably never visit, the history and culture is much more interesting to me.

a bit more...

Canada Day, Canadian national holiday, celebrated on July 1. It marks the anniversary of the unification of Upper and Lower Canada (what are now Ontario and Quebec), New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia as the Dominion of Canada. This union was effected by passage on July 1, 1867, of the British North America Act. Formerly known as Dominion Day, the name was changed to Canada Day in 1982 when the constitution was revised. The day is marked throughout Canada by parades, fireworks, and the display of flags.

Thomas, we caught a bunch of Perch - little ones, all released. We use raw bacon as bait. Saw a very large snapping turtle.

On the old Hockey Night in Canada radio broadcasts, it begins: Good evening hockey fans in Canada, the United States, and Newfoundland!

(This was before Newfoundland joined the conferderation as the last province to do so.)
