Well I need cheering up, no photography for the last six weeks due to a broken wrist and arm, well the cast in now off and I'm having Physio for my tendon problem, anyway I used to own a Pentax Espio Mini and regretted selling it so l have just grabbed another one:)

In my humble opinion the mini is a very underestimated point and shoot

looking back through some old holiday snaps l realised what a fool l was for getting rid of this camera, its 32/3.5 lens is very good

That is a nice pocketable camera by the looks of it. I wonder how common they are here in the States. I sometimes like to venture into flea markets & Goodwill stores. Don't see Pentaxes too often.

I think they are called Pentax UCH-1 in the States:)good luck with your search

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for one. About the photo you posted, has such a wide effect I like. I would not have guessed it to be a 32mm lens.

Actually, they are Pentax UC-1 in the US version.

It is my favorite P&S camera. I quite liked the Olympus Stylus (Mju1) and the two cameras are very similar functionally but I much prefer the size and shape of the Pentax; it is just easier for me to use. Once I got the UC-1, I passed the Stylus on.

Mine is the "chrome" version, doesn't look as good as yours. lxmike, but when I was looking for one, the black ones commanded a significant premium so I went with the chrome.

The only slight downside to these--and most P&S cameras I've had--is that the default is flash on so I have to remember to turn it off every time I turn the camera on.

Great little camera, I think!

thats the panorama mode that you can use on this camera, just a small switch on the back of the camera

thanks Rob, its funny in the UK the chrome ones are rarer and hard to find, I bought a mini when they first came out and carried it everywhere, then like a fool sold it, so lm glad l have replaced it with another one

These little point and shoots are the reason why I don't have a 35mm SLR lens. I have nothing against the 35mm focal length. I rather like it, in fact (though my preference is 50mm). But why get a big, heavy, (sometimes expensive) 35mm lens SLR or RF lens when you can more readily throw a point-n-shoot (or, in the case of the the XA, a rangefinder) with a decent 35/2.8 in your bag? You can shoot that faster than swapping lenses. I really like that Pentax, but a 3.5 lens is always a deal-breaker for me. I have several PnS'ers with 35/2.8: Yash T3, Oly XA, Pentax PC35af, and one that's really growing on me is the Nikon L35AF (which I paid $1.00 for) that has a sonnar variation of this lens.

Meant to say 32mm lens. Still thats a cool feature. I have the Nikon One Touch, similar to what Nick is referring to & it's a good P&S but the auto wind is a bit loud. Might be just me. Thanks Rob for the clarification.

if you can get one cheap l would jump at the chance if l was you:)

I've got a Canon MC that is very similar, but the lens quit focusing. And my XA just never was right after I did some work on it to clean a sticky shutter. Something about the way the focus lever is glued to the lens, if I throw it in one direction, focus is good, but if the lever is moved in the other direction, focus is off. I'll have to keep a lookout for one of these Pentax's, but the pickings have been slim down at Goodwill lately.

goodluck in your hunt

I have bought one of those black Minis a few years ago. Unfortunately it developed some kind of shutter problem - it shoots only after several attempts to depress the shutter. Maybe some lose contact or something. I never considered to repair it as only paid 8€. It looks nice on the shelf.

Thanks for the link, NickTrop!
I did wonder what "Pikaichi" meant after seeing it in some of the ebay listings I browsed.

Hey Mike, sorry to hear about the arm problems. Hope it heals well, and you're back to regular shooting duty :)

And what a cool compact.
