J-12 on R-D1, have you tried this before ?

After a few weeks time using the R-D1, I tried it with almost every screw and M mounts I have, I finally decided the J-12 gives the most satisfactory results.

So what is your choice if you have to pick one lens for the R-D1 ?

I just got a 1978 J-12 and will be testing it out soon, but so far my 40 1.4 mc nokton, 28 1.9 ultron & 1957 industar -ld are my most faves. My 90 elmar-c is the least used.
 
I don't have an RD-1, but I do use a 1987 J-12 on my Leica IIIf RD frequently. It gives me very good photos, a lot of value for the money.

I'm partial to my 40mm m-rokkor. I like he images it gives on the RD1, and I really love the tiny size. The big 28mm CV Ultron is wonderful too, as is the 12mm, as is the 50mm Nokton, as is the cool Industar 61, as is ...

I'm of variable mind as to what I like best.
 
Nick, very nice shots from the J-12, I guess your avatar is the gear you used.

BTW, my J-12 is fifty-year-old (if the serial no. is telling the truth), it flares sometimes on film, but performs perfectly on R-D1, especially in B&W mode.

Any other opinions ?

Yes, the avatar shows the gear. I use a CV metal finder which does a good job.

speaking of "signatures", i love that calligraphy signed by Lu Xun (one of the most important authors and essayists in modern chinese letters) on the wall in one of your photos!!! is that original???

You have seen most of my kit and you have seen some of the results. I would say that my favorite focal length on the R-D1 is 35mm, I really like my Ultron 35. And then in order of preferences, I will go for the Canon 50/1.4 and the UltraWide Heliar 12.

I used to have the J-12 but sold it, setting up the aperture was so annoying.

I don't have a spec sheet, but the Jupiter 12 is a 35mm f/2.8 Russian copy of a Zeiss lens that comes in both LTM and Contax compatible mounts which fit many of the FSU rangefinders as well as Leica and Contax. The rear element protrudes far into the camera body, so there are compatibility problems with some Canon LTM bodies. The first two digits of the SN normally indicate the year of manufacture. Mine is from 1987 and is nicely compatible with my Leica IIIf RD.

Personally I think Kiev mount J-12 is in better quality than M39 version, agree ?

BTW, I am not sure if that art work is from Lu Xun or not, that place belongs to a very very experienced camera repair expert in Hong Kong. He charges very reasonably.

CV12 definitely is a lethal weapon in your hands! :D

Optically, the J-12 Kiev mount and J-12 LTM39 are the same. Build-wise, one version isn't always better than the other. That would depend on the many circumstances such as year/period which the lens was made to a great extent.
