Also one of my great heroes of photography. And, I believe, still very much with us, and maybe even working.
My admiration is all the more as I had the pleasure of meeting him at a party in New York, many decades ago. I recall we chatted briefly, and while we didn't become lifelong close friends (entirely my loss), I already knew his work and I was greatly impressed by his presence and his friendliness to an unknown photographer (me).
Another legend I hoped to meet was Ralph Gibson. Alas, he wasn't at that party. Being at that time immodestly tardy in all to do in my younger life, I arrived late at this event as usual, and I was later told I had missed Elliott Erwitt. So two hard kicks...
