Group,

here from tonights concert some shots. I'm quite impressed about the outcome, handheld at ISO 1250, f4, 90mm M-Rokkor [and nope, no focusing problem using the 90mm wide open, just having got used to it].

If someone is interested, http://www.jocelyn.de/, she will be on tour with her new project EXPRESSIONZZ.

Thanks. Second row about 5 meters or about 15ft away. The 90mm was perfect for that, f2.8 or less would have been even nicer but harder to focus.

They look good, I have a Elmar 90-C coming in I believe this is the same lens as the M-Rokkor? I also have a Canon 85/2 I'll be comparing it to.

Regards,

Tim

Thanks Tim, I'm no expert on Leica lenses, but I guess they are the same, quite a "simple" 4 lens in 4 groups design, but astonishingly sharp. Oh and yes, please do post the results of your comparison!

IR cut filter yes... no?

Nope, no IR cut filter. I heard that one would be adviseable, but I haven't got one yet in proper size. Which type would you recommend? Not too bad though, except the color noise [noise postprocessing was switched off btw. to allow faster shooting]
[pic modified to semi-sepia btw.]

They do look good but as for the noise, some shots have more then others so perhaps it's related to exposure? How about her jacket was it that color or was it black? I'm beginning to think this IR shift is far more prevalent in the DRF world then anyone realized before the M8 came on the scene. Believe me if this shot were taken with an M8 it's distracters would be having a field day- whether or not that was the correct color.

Ron Burgundy you stand warned.

She switched clothes during the break. The long coat she wore first was bright yellow. Later she wore a suit of quite dark maroon brown color (cf the last shot of my first posting, the guy on the right wore a black or better athrazite jacket with thin stripes on top of a black T-shirt). Stage lighting is not really the best color reproducing light anyway, it is for effects. About the noise, indeed the exposure was between 1/125 (best case) and 1/15 worst case, so that might be one reason.

Well, I've been back through many hundreds of my R-D1s colour shots and can only find a faint sign of it in one, whereas some M8 users found it in many of their pictures almost immediately. So I think you're wrong about how prevalent it is.

Thanks Ian,

so I guess I don't have to get an IR cut filter!

If I may ask a possibly ignorant question -- is there a link to your photos in your post, or are they in your gallery?

I removed the images due to some discussions about rights of ownership. Most likely they will soon be back....
