Got another J12 a couple of days ago for my Nikon rf. It would not engage for focus at all. I checked another J12 & discovered that the focusing lugs were 180 degrees out of phase. From looking at my other J12 I could see that the largest lug with the screw in the middle should be at the red dot when the lens was focused at 6 meters. The new '62' model wasn't even close. With a jewelers screwdriver & a bit of patience I got it changed. Works perfectly now.

Sounds like someone may have tampered with the lens in the past (or that it was assembled way-back-when with a Monday-morning hangover).
