Hi Brian. You seem to know the Jupiter lenses better than anyone around. I bought a Jupiter 12 but even before it arrived I heard it cannot be mounted on the Canon P, which is one of the cameras I bought it for. Is this true? By my measurements, admittedly crude, it appears the back end would clear the shutter plane by a good quarter inch.

My other options are M2, CL or Bessa 2A with the 35-135 adapter which trims off a millimeter or two I suppose. I assume the CL is right out because the (non-working, on mine) ttl meter sticking out there. How about the M2 or Bessa?

Many thanks to you or any of your readers with info.

The eternal will a J12 fit a Canon P question. All I can say is it did fit my Canon P and it was a very tight fit.

Earlier J-12's have a metal guard ring around the rear element, adding to the size. The problem with the Canon is with the light baffles. I've rear that some remove the guard ring, and other J-12's that do not have the ring will work.

With the one that I just sold, I only put it on the Canon III. Just be careful, do not force anything. On a film camera, open the back and hold the shutter open for the first tries.

I use a Contax mount J-12 on a Nikon S2 and S3 without problem. But- NEVER put a Contax Mount J-12 on a Contax IIIa or IIa.

Brian, and others: Many thanks. Mine is without the metal guard so I'll give it a try. A dealer on that ole auction site is selling a very ancient-looking LTM to Contax mount adapter and he has the photos of it mounting a J-12. The mount edges come out beyond the bottom element so presumably the whole lens would be outside the camera chamber. Which is redundant. Outside the camera body.
