Yes I did. Feels a little awkward buying a high-priced film camera when the world around you seems to have gone totally digital. But I guess b/w film will be here long enough to put the camera to good use.

Congratulations for the new Zeiss Ikon. i just bought two of them, so I know exactly how you feel. Lovely cameras, with a gigantic bright viewfinder and very accurate RF, you won't be disappointed.

The Zeiss is a terrific camera -- use it well and often and any residual awkwardness will soon be forgotten!

Marry it with the VC 35/1.2 and you are set for life.

It feels good doing something different, doesn't it -- I think I've done worse things than buying a film camera

It's a very nice camera, enjoy it.
I recently picked up a bargain basement M4-2 which turned out to be in great condition. I don't intend to shoot film all that often, but fitted with a Skopar 50, 35, or M-Rokkor 40 mm lens, this is one sweet camera to work with. even if I only shoot a roll or three a year with it, who cares? It's the pictures that matter and the fact that the camera is a pleasure to work with that counts.

Fantastic camera, IMHO, perhaps the best 35mm range finder. I don't think it should feel awkward at all, it'll hold it's value better than a digital camera, and probably remain usable for longer too.
A great choice, I think.

Get a Grip
Get a Grip
If you're feeling awkward about your Zeiss Ikon, maybe you should get a side grip for your camera. It looks nicer with it and you can hold the camera more comfortably. They cost $99 at Adorama in New York. Here's a photo of mine with the side grip attached. When people see my camera, they think it looks pretty cool and are more impressed when I tell them it's a film camera.
I enjoy showing off my Zeiss Ikon camera, whenever and wherever possible.

You will really enjoy it, it spanks Leica in the viewfinder department. Now you're going to need a Luigi half-case!

The funny thing is I already got one (Luigis budget type though).
Has anyone tried the original leather case for the ZI ? Zeiss offers a black one.

I have the original Zeiss case. I really love it even though some say it is ugly. Pox on them. The funny thing is I already got one (Luigis budget type though).

I had bought half cases for my 2 Zeiss Ikons but since I got the grips, the cases stay in the closet. The grips are really a great addition and much better and usefulness than a leather case.
