Man, I've been having bad GAS lately. But who do I tell? It's ridiculous to spend good money on this stuff. Just the other day I bought an inexpensive Leica R6 that I learned about from RFF member ray_g (thanks again). Interesting as it is supposedly "all-mechanical" so minimally battery-dependent. Nevertheless, it's got spot-metering and is solid-as-a-rock.

And then there was the little M42 to Rollei SL-mount adapter. Hasn't arrived yet. So, soon my Super-Takumars can work on the SL35, SL35E, SL35M or, even more weird, the SL2000.

Today, the GAS got much worse. Much to my surprise, I just now won an oBoy auction for a Contarex Bullseye!!!! Yikes. Now, that's a handfull. Not exactly a stealth camera. It's coming with a 35mm f4 Distagon. Any kind of adapter I can get to use that lens on an M-mount camera, or better yet a Contax IIa???

Maybe it's the depletion of the ozone layer, as I have been severely afflicted lately,
and you seem to like the same kinds of things which appeal to me.
That 35 Distagon may not sound exciting to some people, but it has contrast beyond
belief, and focuses fantastically close. There's some vignetting, but I've never really
cared about that; in fact, I use it to enhance some shots, always using it wide open.
The 'Rex is built like a Duesenberg, and the handling is not especially smooth, but it's
a remarkable example of no-compromises manufacturing.

Have fun!

Hmm... something going on here. I've been afflicted lately too. Denying that I've been eyeing Contarexes and more so Contarex lenses is no use. But then I happened to read Henry Scherer's information on these cameras and that scared me stiff. Result being that my GAS has abated momentarily.

These things are magnetic, but they aren't exactly cheap either. Besides, from what I can infer, it might not be possible to adapt the 'Rex lenses onto anything else because of the unusual mount. I would be happy to be corrected by someone as that would give me reason to slake the thirst.

I read Scherer's Contarex comments with interest. My GAS so so bad that what he says only adds to the aura of the thing. The Bullseye/Cyclops Contarex is about the only camera I have ever thought of buying where it would not kill me to have it just be a beautiful paperweight. I have no idea how my new Contarex will work. It's in externally beautiful condition, but who knows. If it needs a trip to Scherer, that's okay. And I assume I'll never, ever rely on that light meter even if it jiggles. It's all just a weird platform for those lenses.
