... just declined to sell me an M4, because I wanted it shipped USPS. Shouldn't the guy waving the plastic get his way in retail?

Ouch, sorry to hear that :( In fact I almost had a deal with them in the past, but both the amount of papers they asked by fax, and the UPS shipment took me back.

I'm glad, as it was for a Canon 7 and I ended finding one for half that price at photo.net. If they don't come to reasons don't give up, there are always interesting deals on ebay, here or at pn.

Thanks. I emailed the owner: if he's smart, he'll say 'send me your info, and I'll walk it down the street to the post-office myself'; that's what I'd expect from a well-regarded company.

eBay is grinding me down: I'm spending too much time messing around looking. But sooner-or-later...

I have done a lot of business with KEH and have always been happy with them, but you are right. No reason not to ship a package via USPS if it is so requested by a customer. I am sure they have a special deal arranged for shipping with UPS, but in business, little business deals can be waived for customer satisfaction.

And not only that, I've read HORROR stories about Canada (and in fact worldwide) UPS deliveries...

Should is the operative word. As rover says they may have a shipping deal, many companies do. Very few online stores of any description will use the U.S. Postal Service.

I'm checking out that M5: might be the real deal if it's seen a shop lately and has the right s/n.

UPS Ground shipments to Canada are a nightmare. They send the stuff cheap, and then they have some sort of relationship with a Family-run business of western-European origin; who hold your stuff until you cough up the "brokerage fee". I recently returned-to-sender a camera because the guy didn't pay attention to my shipping instructions.

Thanks, greyhoundman, but I'll be damned if I'll kowtow to them; it's got to be the other way 'round.

Merciful

That "brokerage fee" is what makes people around here ship UPS to a border store on the US side and pick it up from there. OTH I have had no problems with the USPS service. That is a bummer with KEH.

Hmmmmm: I knew that UPS's higher-grade services didn't have the guys-with-flat-noses feature, but I didn't know they were potentially cheaper than the USPS these days. I'll investigate, thanks.

But I won't buy from KEH.
