Hi all,

A long time viewer of the forum, just got validated yesterday. Right in time for a problem :)

I dismantled my kiev for cleaning and rangefinder calibration, and found out the light baffle on the shutter is so deformed that it is preventing the shutter to fit (looks like it is colliding with the helical.) another assembly problem is the shaft screw is chipped.

So long story short, what is the probability the camera will functions properly without the two component?

regards,

Dave

A missing baffle should cause significant light leaks - I already had leaks from a bent one. But you should be able to bend (or in more severe cases hammer) it back into shape. Which shaft screw?

I tried many times to fit the shutter module with the light baffle but it kept colliding with the helical, but if it's that important then looks like I should find a way to get it right.

The shaft screw is the small one on the right side (viewed from behind) got no pictures right now, but there is a picture of it on kiev survival site on the shutter removal section (fifth picture).

Light baffles are not fitted for the fun of it, they have an obvious purpose: to prevent light getting where it's not wanted. Leaving one out is almost guaranteed to cause a leak so you should take whatever steps necessary to re-fit it. As for the screw, is that one of the little grub-screws with no head? It's possible (but very tedious) to make one from a piece of threaded rod of the right size. Failing that, you could contact one of the repair people to see if they can supply one. As a last resort, if it's just lost one side of the "head" it's often still possible to tighten it up enough, although it's not ideal.

Yes I realized that every components must be there for a specific reasons. :) I think I can try to reshape the baffle to fit.(hopefully)
Yes that's the one, actually this is the one I worry the most, as there is no way I can get kiev parts here in Indonesia.
My plan is one of this options:
A. I actually eyeing a kiev 3 from ebay, my idea is then swapping the top part with my kiev as I favor the meterless form more.
B. Or maybe get a parts camera and swapping the needed parts for my kiev.

Many Thanks for the inputs sevo and wolves. Hopefully I can figure out the best options, I just love the kiev and planning on getting the jupiter 12 for it, even already fashioned a home made finder from a compact :)

Regards,

Dave.

I bought a 'parts' 4AM and if you can tell me exactly which screw it is I will try and dive in and liberate it for you.

wow that is too nice murray :) I'm on mobile now, I'll try to send you a picture of it if possible.
it's the screw supporting the shutter assembly (i think wolves got it described right).
Many thanks murray.
