Hi!
I was doing the full rangefinder adjustment procedure on my recently aquired Kiev4A the other day (in anticipation of the arrival of a mint Jupiter 9, I might add
), when I managed to damage the Shutter Wind Wheel part (pictured somewhere below, I'd imagine).
This wheel has a tab (indicated in the second picture) that interfaces with the film wind/shutter wind mechanism and there is an even smaller tab (now missing) on top of this one which interfaces with the shutter speed selector (pictured in image 3) on the Kiev.
After breaking this tab, the reassembled camera will no longer wind correctly between pictures, and the shutterspeed will not lock (if I keep the wheel in one position, 1/1250 will be selected, in another 1/250 etc), the wheel spins freely even when not pulled out.
I have checked around and found that there are a couple of "for parts only" Kiev 4s around, but they usually cost around $20 and shipping starts at $15. This would make it a rather expensive repair, and as I had hoped to keep my RRF-hobby as cheap as possible, I'm just investigating if any of you would have a scrapper left somewhere that you could get this part from.
Kind regards
Kjetil

Kiev 4 shutter block
Kiev 4 shutter block
I have Kiev 4 parts, many of them, and the item you need is attached to a complete shutter sub-assembly out of a 74 body. I would have used it for re-building except the centre spring is kaput . Metal slats, tapes, side springs , wind and release mechanism, claw and so on look great.....but it needs work.
Maybe you only need the knob, but this deal will get you more, much more! I can put it in the mail tomorrow in bubblepack including surface postage for $20.
Contact me directly if you're interested (djb@netsplash.ca)

Thanks for the help both of you, with Dave's help it seems like this problem will be solved as fast as the Postal Service will allow.

How the heck did you bust that? I have one from a Contax but sorry, not for a Kiev.

The lower stud with slotted end that engages in the shutter speed selector wheel is quite long (3-4mm) and I'm sure you could torque it off trying to change speeds unwisely. Or it just fatigued off - dam russian thingy.

Sorry, guys. This one goes in the "stupid first-timer Norwegian camera-engineer"-bin.
The procedure for adjusting the rangefinder of the Kiev is quite timeconsuming, and this was my first repair with more than a few layers of parts removed, hence it started getting late. By the time I got to reassembling the shutter wind wheel, the time was about 2.30am, and I'd been working on it since 8pm or thereabouts.
The flat wheel with a square hole in it through which you can see one of the shutter speed catches on the third picture above, was out of position. I could only see part of a circular slit appearing to run along the edge of the wheel and did not remember the catches for the shutterspeed selector below.
Therefore I figured (that's the stupidness entering the story) that the tab on the broken part must have come 90deg out of position, and tried to force it around its own axis. It did not respond very well to pressure.. :bang:
So until the part shows up, thanks a lot for the help Dave, I have a perfectly focusing, non operating Kiev4. Glad I have a good Zorki 4 to play around with in the mean time.
