I've been stalking for a year or so in this forum and I would like to say that I've always found it useful, not to speak of the great pleasure I find in reding from fellow 'iconomecanophiles', as Princelle calls us.

The case is that I have two pieces of Russian gear that no technician nearby would put his hands on: one is a Kiev 5, the other a FED 50/2 lens, also called "the FED Summar".

The Kiev 5 is in a pretty bad condition: the shutter partially opens almost every time I turn the speeds dial, and sometimes when I wind the film. Being basically a Kiev 4, I don't think a skilled technician would call this a difficult repair. The main problem is with the focussing cam, wich is loose inside the bayonet and won't focus. Of course, the light meter is dead.

As for the FED lens, it is totally screwed up: some parts are loose, the iris does not work as intended an looks that someone tried to fix it, but just screwed it even more.

Do you know of someone reliable that will take one or both items for service?

Thanks for all, guys!

Where are you located? I have one here that does both - he has my 50/f2 currently and he had a Kiev 5 with a broken advance mechanism when I last visited him - and he seems pretty solid. Unfortunately "here" is in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan). I'm in Germany periodically; if you have plenty of time, you can send it there, I take them to Kyrgyzstan, have them repaired and send them back, but it will take a couple of months.
