I notice that my local Walmart (Mountain View, California) has been out of stock of the Kodak 400UC for more than two weeks. Is this the case in your local Walmarts as well?

I may need to find another cheap source for 400UC or try the new Portra 400VC (if I am going to online purchases anyway).

AFAIK Kodak stopped making UC film when they introduced the improved Portra film(apparently UC is too close to the new Portra VC).

My local Wally World hasn't had any thing but MAX films for about a year now. Locally I've been getting UC400 and BW400CN at either CVS or Target.

Speaking of the improved Portra film (and sorry to hijack this thread), but has anyone in Northern California/Silicon Valley received their free samples from Kodak? I promptly put in for mine and saw all the postings here from others around the country who received theirs but never received anything myself.

I don't think they're allowed to send freebies to California- some regulatory thing:D

Yeah, film processing is bad for the environment, so it's not "green" so it's not allowed out here... :p

If some people get something free, it'll hurt the self-esteem of those who do not. It's just not right or fair.

Did ya ever get caught chewing gum in school and the teacher asked "Did you bring enough for everyone?"

Oh yeah, and I got in an amazing amount of trouble for actually having enough gum to honestly answer that question "Why, yes I do." Some kind of twisted lesson there, I'm pretty sure...:D

WallyWorlds in Indy (at least my side of town), no longer carry that film. Just the MAX and the Fuji films are available...

I think it was the 120 format that lost out on the UC because VC was too close..

There are no Wal-marts inside of boston, but every fifteen feet there is a CVS- they have it..

I have noticed in the past few weeks that the film section at Targets around me are gone, and the last trip to Walmart it was drastically reduced.

I wonder which expires faster, digital cameras or film?
That is, if a retailer like Xmart buys say 20 boxes of film, vs, 20 boxes of digital cameras, which is the bigger risk.. I fresh box of film I just got from CVS expires 11/08. Could a digital camera still be sold for full price if it sat on the shelf even half that time?
No point here, just wondering about the bean counting that must be going on.
I used to think film was risky because it had an expiration date, but so do new digital wares.. They expire the second a new one comes out.

Obviously if the stores were making money on film they'd be stocking and selling it.

I asked the minilab guy at my local Target store whatever happend to the kodak elite chrome..
They said the last two times they ordered it, it just hung on the hook getting dusty until it expired. Now all they have is the disposable cameras and some 800 speed.

The Target by where I live still carries film. It's a small selection, but they still have it. Of course, it's just a matter of time before they dump it completely. I think they just keep it to lure those luddites still using film (like me) past the digital camera display.

I was just at a Wal-Mart here in Charleston, SC and there was none to be found. Worse, the sales "associate", an idiot kid, had no clue of what I was asking for.
