Dear all,

I have bought a Konica III. at a second hand store in Tokyo and the counter isn't working. Is there any tutorial online that deals with the disassembly of this camera? Or have anyone by any chance have taken one apart in the past?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Ben

It's been a while since i had mine apart, but removing the top cover is straightforward: simply remove the rewind crank, the cold shoe, and the screw at the counter, then lift off the cover. Note that on mine at least the cover was on pretty tight, but it will come off with some carefully-applied effort.

I believe the counter uses a fairly conventional arrangement. It may simply be jammed with dirt or debris, or perhaps there's a problem with the reset mechanism that trips it back to zero when the back is opened.

Hi there. Thanks for that, certainly sounds like something I should be able to do. Appreciate your comment.

I have just gone back to the 2nd hand shop earlier today to ask what they thought and they said I have until Saturday to get my money back. I found a Konica IIIa at the shop, with a much MUCH better viewfinder and in similar condition to my III. That had a working counter and the same 48mm F2 lens. It was cheaper than mine by 50USD. All things tell me I should get that instead and some money back. What do you think? Which is a better camera?

Thanks,
Ben

Hello,

Just to bring some life back to this thread, I have taken the camera back and gotten myself the Konica IIIa which has a magnificent finder in my opinion compared to the III or any other camera I held that was not a Medium format camera. I am very happy with the result and the counter now works :)

Thanks again for helping out, I would have opened the camera for sure had the shop not been willing to take the broken one back.

Best,
Ben
