I picked up a couple (!) of IIIMs over the summer - one with the light meter attachment attached and not working, the other with the light meter removed. Both in clean good working order.

A few questions to the knowledgeable:

1. Has anyone had success in getting a light meter repaired? Is it worth the trip...

2. How difficult is it to remove the light meter? When closed it obscures the viewfinder, when open it prevents a hotshoe meter from being added...

3. Even on the meter-less one, there's a protruding nub that makes it impossible to fully slide on an external light meter...any thoughts about how to remove (and please feel free to discourage me from doing so...)

4. Has anyone have an idea where I can pick up the matching half frame mask. I would love to have the half frame option for these beauties...

Thanks as always for your insights and sharing your experience.

I've adjusted the rangefinders on a couple of IIIAs. If memory is correct, you adjust the rangefinder via two holes. One hole is under the flash shoe, so you must remove that. The other hole is accessed by removing the round metal plug on the back of the top plate. I can't remember which screw is horizontal or vertical. It wasn't difficult.

Thanks, Peter. I have only run one roll though this one and will need to experiment further with wide open shots to see if the problem if me or the RF...

Still waiting for the reply : "Sure, I've got a bunch of half frame masks lying around..." :)
